The four gospels were not written by the apostles.
They were written close to the end of the first century long after the apostles were dead and gone. The john who wrote revelations was not the apostle john. He was a poor man kept in prison so long that he simply lost his mind and started to imagine a vengeful God who would punish his captors and anyone like them.
The bible was created 2 centurys later by the roman empire to change the message of Jesus to something that the Romans found more acceptable.
This is why it is often difficult to understand. The message of Jesus on the other hand is elegant and simple to understand. You need to separate the message that Jesus left for us from all of the nonsense that the Romans overlaid it with and it will start to become quite easy to understand.
Don't take my word for any of this. Study biblical history for your self and draw your own conclusions. There are many good books on this subject by some intelligent and thoughtful people. Take advantage of their efforts.
Email if you are interested and I will send so suggested reading material.
Love and blessings.

The problem with the gospel of John is that it wasn't written by a contemporary of Christ so it uses secondary sources and the problem with the synoptic gospels-Matthew, Mark and Luke- is that the similarities suggest that Matthew and Luke were largely based upon Mark's gospel.

Can you be more specific? There are a few contradictions among the four gospels, but might be something lost in translation or simply the old adage that no two people describe the same event the same way. Keep up your quest for enlightenment and you will be rewarded.

I don't know which problem you're referring to. One big one is that the 4 gospel accounts disagree about what happened on the Most Important Day EVER. The resurrection. They disagree about WHO went to the tomb, WHEN they went, WHY they went, WHO was there (men or angels), HOW many (1 or 2), WAS the stone rolled away or not....on n on

And the solution is on the page as well.

There is more than one problem with the Gospels. The Gospels were written decades after Jesus died, if he existed at all. Earlier than that, Paul/Saul wrote some letters about Jesus. Unfortunatley, hardly any of the events mentioned in the Gospels were mentioned by the earlier writings of Paul/Saul (which were also written decades after Jesus supposedly died.).
In studying the Gospels, historians have figured out that Mark is the oldest of them. However, they have found various versions of Mark. The others seem to have been loosely based on Mark and on other texts that we no longer have.
So, why were the Gospels made to be the Gospels? That was due to a meeting in the 325 called the Council of Nicaea, which Constantine put together. Constantine was the one who gave Christianity its foothold by making it a state religion. At the council, the Gospels were decided upon by a committee of bishops. There were various books and versions of books floating around. The bishops attempted to put together an "official" canon, discarding the rest which are known as the apocrypha.
That's the history of the Gospels, a selection of stories picked by committee hundreds of years after Jesus supposedly died.

i have been reading the bible for 40 years, an i have not noticed a "problem." I am not sure what you are talking about.....
sometimes the main issue can be seen as "who is jesus, and why is he here?"
each of the 4 gospels answers this form a different perspective..but comes to the same conclusion....jesus is man, he is king and priest, he is savior, he is the son of god,,,,he has come to make atonement for sin, and establish a spiritual kingdom on earth..which will pave the way for the earthly kingdom to come.

Besides the fact that the four gospels are in fact based on two earlier texts, and the fact a large chunk was transposed (if I recall correctly, from matthew to mark)?

Sounds like the problem your having is not in the Gospels but in your personal life...seek God thru prayer and Bible reading. Ask him to clear things up for you.
God Bless you...

I agree with Carol M......There are no contradictions in the bible. Gods Word doesn't contradict itself...It may seem like that at times but if we're leaning on our own understanding then that's what we can conclude. But God reveals the hidden truths of His word to those that are hungry after Him and those who have their hearts set on Him. Are you one of those people? Or do you just read the bible to find fault with it?

I see no problem in the 4 gospels, Therefore it does not require an answer. Because a problem willbe a mistake, & God's word never contidict itself.
