What is the best time to go to BestBuy (in NJ/NY area) on Black Friday? I know the store opens at 5am, and they said a line forms at 4am. But what time should I actually go there if I wanna get a hot item like a laptop?... preferably someone who's done this before successfully, please answer

When it opens at 6 am. Walmart is the same. Be ready for the huge crowds though! Online might be in your best interest.

You should go camp out in the wee hours of Friday morning, if you’re a die-hard. But if you just want to go to see if you’re able to get anything, then just be there in line at about an hour before the stores open. However, be forewarned that there will be A LOT of waiting - waiting for parking (for a space far, far away), waiting to get INTO the store, waiting in line to pay, waiting, waiting, & more waiting. I would suggest you get there before 3-3:30AM, if you really want to get the "hot" items. You have to experience this once to know that I’m not crazy.

But since you're only considering a laptop, depending on how good the deal is and the brand, etc., I wouldn't count that a lot of people will be going for it, only because it probably costs almost a few hundred to $1000, which is too much for most people to spend. But I could be wrong, maybe a lot of people will be looking at the same laptop as you. It's hard to tell sometimes, so you just have to take your chances. Either go extra early or wind it and go later like 8AM or something. Keep in mind of the time constriants too. Check if your item is apart of 7-hour sale or not. If yes, you need to make the purchase before noon. And from my experience, waiting in line to pay can take an hour too! Good luck and happy shopping!!

Get there early! If you want something bad enough, a 4 or 5 hour wait is worth it. People will line up as early as the night before, so it depends on how long you are waiting out there, and how many people decide to wait. Make sure to bring everything you need, though, like food, water, warm clothes, money, etc... Because if you leave the line, you may have some people trying to pick fights how you "lost your place in line." People literally mob the store once the doors open.

I would go through the ad and write down the most important to the least important things you want. That way, once you get in the store, you can run to get the things you want! And I really mean run! Bring some good running shoes!! Also, be prepared to leave whatever you brought with outside once the doors open. Ex. if you bring a lawn chair, you obviously can't cart that inside. So don't bring any valuables that you wouldn't want stolen.

Also, be prepared for other techniques of letting people in. My Best Buy store let 20 people in at a time, in 5 minute segments (to reduce the 'mob' effect). So the people early in line got the best deals.

GOOD LUCK, and my beat advice to you is to be prepared to wait, run, and snatch!! :)

Sorry to say but, from a retailer's experience, it's gonna be bad until about 1 or 2 p.m. It dies after that. However, so does the selection of products. If the selection is still there, though, there will be LOTS of people. It's a lose, lose situation.
