No more or less so than other 5% beers really as the ingredients are virtually identicle. People used to say it has alot of iron in it, but unless roasting and toasting the malt adds iron to it (doubtful) the ingredients are water from the river liffy, top working yeast (similar in strain to what a baker would use), various hops (like any other beer) & malted barley! The amount of toasted and burned grains make the colour darker and the beer sweeter, less hops make it less bitter!! Could email you a recipe for a reasonable Murphy's clone if you're interested?

What you typically run into at the bar is Guinness Draught... Extra Stout is pure black and a bit heavier and slightly higher ABV... Guinness Draught is the run of the mill, everyday Guiness... If you want the same thing you get at the bar... that's it. Guinness is a Stout, the "Draught" is actually a slightly milder version of the Extra Stout. Personally though, I don't touch Guinness, try some American Microbrew stuff, they make far better stouts than the mass-produced Guiness. Try Rogue's Shakespeare Stout or Chocolate Stout... they are fantastic Side note: the widget Sprout is referring to is actually a method of nitrogenizing the beer, ever noticed the cascade on a freshly poured Guinness, the result of nitrogen in the brew....

Guiness is a stout. The reason they say it is good for you is because during WW2 with all the rationing of food stuffs Guinness put a bit (and I mean a tiny bit) of iron in it so as to promote it as an additional food source as it were. The myth has persisted ever since.

Guinness, years ago, was advertised as being good for you cos of its iron content but this got changed and they cant say that anymore cos the amount of iron thats in a pint is so small you dont really get any benefit from it.its basically like an old wife's tale that its really good for you made up by advertising execs years ago

Guiness is not the only stout, ye know, the following is true for all of them:
The alcohol makes you happy, the hops calm you down, the yeast is full of B vitamins, and the barley has iron and potassium.
Does that answer your question?

Yeah, dude. They more pure, the better it is for you. The light beers are just stout beer that have gone through a horse's bladder and peed back out. That's what they taste like.

They gave it to me when i was in hospital when i was pregnant!
It's rich in iron and good for counteracting anemia. Plus when my mother-in-law was dying of secondary cancer, (of the spine) she had an enlarged liver, but the doc told her she could drink guinness - so it's as the advert says, it IS good for you!

Heart & blood, yes. Apparently, if you drink 42 pints of Guinness and 1 pint of milk every day, that's your nutritional (or possibly protein) requirement. 'Course, your liver, stomach, brain & kidneys would have packed in long before then. But you're welcome to give it a go!
