A positive ANA is one of the indicators of autoimmne disease. I have lupus and lots of us have a positive ANA, but not all of us. The ANA can vary from test to test. Other conditions can cause a positive result. There are times when there will be a negative result but disease is still present.

An antinuclear antibody test in itself does not result in a diagnosis. An experience doctor, most likely a rheumatologist, is your best bet.
