We had a great thing going for a few months, she got distant, said she should be alone for a while. I can accept that. But she texts me all the time still, talk and see each other occasionally and things aren't awkward (but I can still feel the chemistry so I know it's still there and she's still interested). Quick question (and hope there's a simple answer) how do I keep myself around this girl just enough to keep "the fire" tended but not too much to fall into "just friends"? It seems I am walking a very fine line.

Just keep up the lighthearted flirtation with her. At some point you might say something like "I guess I'll have to settle for (name of attractive woman) since I can't seem to get the woman of my dreams." This is a nice way of saying pee or get off the pot.

Flirt: Complement her on her looks, make her laugh. Go watch when Harry met Sally.
