My cat's the same way...I think it's because she sees it as "fresh"....she sees the water disappear when flushed and "new" water appear. I even have one of those pet fountains and she won't touch it.

Hi there;

Out of my three kitties, they all had a toilet fetish. I asked my vet and he said to change the dish I was using and close the lid on the toilet.
I found a dish set at Petsmart called Le'Bistro it resists mildew and alge build up on the plastic. They will still drink from the toilet once in awhile...i'l just change thier water and then they will stop.

Alot of times the cats can still taste dish wash fluid. The smell of 'old water' or if they saw the other cat near it (or a dog, a persons foot or another animal...maybe mouse or spiders too) a cat will refrain from drinking from her bowl.

Alot of times if you own a cat that is Siameese or Persian, Angora...a highend 'snotty' 'finiky' kitty it will demand fresh water every time it drinks.

Enjoy your bundle of fur!!

Because she's a cat. Mine will drink out of the toilet, the pond, the swimming pool, any puddle they come across, but the water in the bowl drys up through evaporation.

My cats the same way, she will only drink out of the bathroom sink or a cup set in the sink. I think once cats get something in there head there's no changing them when it comes to where they like to drink their water.

The toilet water is cold and is fresh to our animals. I taught my cat to drink from the faucet. When she is thirsty she lets me know and I run the water for her, she thinks she is special now.
