A laxative has no effect on colon cancer but not having regular bowel movements does increase your cancer risk. When the contents of the colon pass through more slowly there is an opportunity for toxins and carcinogens (substances which may induce cancer) to be in prolonged contact with the bowel wall which is where cancer starts. Fiber, docusate sodium, and milk of magnesia (depending upon various factors) should regulate your bowel habit without the need for laxatives.

Not having frequent enough bowel movements is going to cause you problems as there will be a toxic built up in your body. It is therefore not so much that taking laxatives will increase your risk to bowel cancer.
To find out more about how to increase your bowel movements, refer to the tips that can be found here http://www.ibs-treatment-options.com

no but any regular use of laxatives will create more problems than it solves...if you were comfortable and had no problems at once every 2 weeks, let it go at that.
