I am thinking about buying a used 1994 Volvo 960. The current owner hit the guy in front of him and the airbags went off and the passenger side one broke the windshield when this happened (bad design in my mind, but whatever). I can find airbags in a junkyard for about $300, the car is $1500 asking price, but do I need to re-set something to have them work again? There is no visible damage to the car, I have called a shop that specializes in imports, they have yet to get back to me. I called the local dealer and they seemed confused by this and have yet to call me back and I called Volvo USA who told me to call the dealer! For $1500 plus $300 (airbags) plus $200 (windshield) I could have a decent car, but I want the airbags to work and I have no idea if it means replacing a $500 module or pushing a reset button. Any ideas? THANKS for your input!

Only a body shop or a Volvo dealership can do this.

the air bag system can be read from the under hood diagnostic connector you will get 2 codes [three didgit each] and hopefully no more[ onefor each air bag] when replaced they can be cleared if more than two codes are displayed the inflator crash sensor will also be subject to renewal if you are not savvy with electronics i recommend you to the nearest dealer or volvo specialty shop AN INADVERTANT AIR BAG INFLATION CAN HURT OR KILL YOU so don't plug new bags in without testing the system first.

Volvo's are a reliable make and this does sound ok. i'd ask the guy promoting the vehicle in the adventure that they may be keen to study for you. this may insure that you gained't run into complications once you bypass to get your tags and inspections. you gained't favor to do the inspection if the different human being does it. that's only a tenet to creating sensible the vehicle is routinely ok.
