I was under the impression Islam is the largest religion in the world, but some Christians say Christianity is. Does anyone have any facts on this?

Although the Christians will say it's Christians - 2.5 billion, indeed! - it is probably Muslim. It simply isn't sensible to count all 350 million Americans, and CERTAINLY not 60 million Britons, because there is no way they are all Christian. The depth of faith among Islamic countries is far higher, they have higher populations - countries such as Indonesia start off with 800 million. Obviously not all of those are Muslim, but a higher proportion of Indonesians would say they were, compared to Christians among Britons, Mexicans, Canadians, Poles, Russians and so on. A show of hands for the GENUINE Christian/Muslim would almost certainly show for more Muslims worldwide.
Incidentally, the numbers game is pretty irrelevant. There are no-where near that many atheists (I'm not going to include China for the reasons above), and yet we're the ones who are right. Go figure.

Depends on where your at.
Population of Christians is a bit higher but Christianity is not growing as fast due to the christian idea that sex is disgusting and dirty.
Looks like Muslims will pass the Christians soon due to a much higher birth rate.

No. Christians 2.5 billion Muslims are 1.5 billion.
it's expected that Muslims will out number Christians by 2025.

Statistics change rapidly every day.
It is harder to get precise record, when some sects deny to count the followers in other sects. In a previous question on YA, I see that the Protestants don't want to accept Catholics as Christians.
