if the puppy is six weeks old then yes they need it in case they get it worms. my dog had it and she gave worms to her puppies we gave them worm . my puppies are three months

Yes, call your local veterinarian. They will tell you that without charging you one cent. Good luck, and take care of your puppy....they depend on you to do the right things.
