Would you do anything to slow down the numbers of immigrants coming into the USA? (NOT 'stopping', just reducing the numbers) Would you be interested in knowing where the USA is headed if immigration continues at the rate is NOW? (800,000+ people per year)

No one wants to STOP immigration. It needs to be REDUCED. With the numbers already here, in 20 years our population will have increased to the level we will not have the natural resources (water, natural gas, farmlands) to sustain them all. Our waterways are in jeapardy NOW. What do you think it will be like when our population has doubled? California, TODAY, must build one elementaty school EVERY DAY in order to keep up with that states population. The entire USA is headed toward that same fate if IMMIGRATION is not reduced. If WE don't control it NOW it will be too late for our children and grandchildren to correct that terrible mistake.

katsulover - You DO understand the question. It is not againt immigration. It is against the NUMBERS of immigrants. A ten year moratorium would be great and when that 10 years ended, immigration should not be more than 200,000 per year. T.y.

I have always supported a 10 year moratorium on immigration. That would give this nation time to get the illegal alien problem taken care of with out the added numbers of people entering this country. This nation MUST stop this endless sea of illegals storming our
nation. The USA needs to be focusing on taking care of the legal Americans that are already here and not on those who have committed a crime in coming here.
Our resources are limited,we can not, must not allow any one or any group of people to use those resources and
spit in our faces. Its past time for this nation to think of Americans first ,last and always.I love this nation and its being destroyed from within,by people that don't give a damn about this country. It must stop. The first time i saw the video "How To Destroy America " I knew what I felt was the truth. Its a great video and it will open your eyes and your mind if you watch it.

For the poster up above
The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the U.S. from France, with the title, "Liberty Enlightening the World". The statue and its symbolism had nothing to do with immigration, but rather hope that the rest of the world would adopt
Democracy.
The Emma Lazurus plaque (it is not chiseled in the base), "send me your huddled masses" was added ten years later during the immigration peak of that age.
The sonnet, "New Colossus", was written by Emma Lazarus in 1883 as part of a literary campaign to raise funds for the completion of the Statue's pedestal. Not much attention was paid to it until the tide of immigration surged at the turn of the century. Proceeds that were raised from its auction were used to complete the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. This plaque memorialized the sonnet in 1903 and was placed on the inner wall of the Statue's pedestal. It currently is displayed inside the Statue of Liberty museum.

Since then, U.S. population has expanded by 4 1/2 times. The U.S. is the world's highest-consuming (and most wasteful) nation, and is no longer in need of settlement

i don't think the "overwhelming majority" share your opinion, this 'silent majority' concept that the spectacular likes to have confidence in is a farce. before everything, the drug smuggling and illegals searching for artwork are thoroughly unrelated matters. Illegals searching for artwork elect 0 hardship. Drug smuggling exists simply by fact there is call for for marijuana in the U. S., however the drug coverage in the country is backwards. ending marijuana prohibition will provide up the violence on the border a similar way ending alcohol prohibition stopped Chicago gangland in the 20's. The perception that illegals do not elect to assimilate is unfounded, each individual entering into knows that English is had to develop. simply by fact somebody has an accessory, speaks a distinctive language with family members, or is only new to the language would not recommend they don't elect to assimilate. For the checklist, we very intentionally have not got a countrywide language (English is basically a de facto). without immigrants (criminal or unlawful), the U. S. could be in inhabitants decline and lacking unskilled workers. the subject is only that it relatively is complicated to go into the country legally without enterprise sponsorship (or family members, political asylum, etc), and the criminal expenses of sponsorship are too large for small companies or low-skill employers to submit to. Immigration reform is the respond, there is not any reason to lash out against people working not ordinary the least bit desirable jobs in the country. And we could face it, the real difficulty is only that Mexico is damaging. Mexicans are not ecstatic to bypass away their properties and associates and family members. it relatively is in the main suitable activity of the U. S. to help Mexico; they're already effectual determining to purchase and merchandising companion... recuperating circumstances for his or her damaging skill they don't prefer or elect to come back to the U. S. illegally.

Oh, I agree. Some are saying to stop illegal immigration by making it all legal (barring criminals). However, that ignores why we have limits in immigration to begin with. Immigration of too many poor people who can't pay for their own family's education and services ruins schools and services for our own people and reduces the working wage for our own people at the same time. That is why we have limits and why illegal immigration is stealing.

However, ignoring the reason for limits and making it legal, while it would mean they were no longer stealing, would still ruin our schools and services.

If there is any form of amnesty, we need reduced immigration, I agree. There are too many here already.

Think about this. Price is directly related to supply and demand. Illegal immigration is at an all time high right now. Guess what, the price of Gasoline has been on the rise ever since the mass influx of illegals. More people=more demand=higher prices. I don't know about you, but if mass immigration and illegal immigration is going to cause my cost of living to increase then I have to oppose it.

Its probably going to soon be like China, where you can only have 1 child and no more.

If there were no ILLEGAL immigrants here, it probably wont be so bad 20ys from now. The illegal immigrants are making it bad for all immigrants, and all american citizens.

I am not to worried about legal immigrants coming over since they followed the law. It is not easy to become an American, and they do it without complaint(so to the back burner on that one).

Now, illegal aliens never follow the law and I am tired of the better life excuse.
We need to secure our border and deny amnesty for all the criminals first. Focus on those illegals first, that should be the priority.

The best way is to enforce our immigration laws. Yes unlike what some on here think, we can not feed or house the whole world.

I am a Pro-immigration person for people desring to become US citizens. \the only restrictions I would impose is proof of finacial independence meaning you can support your self, No history of serious criminal behavior or of violating our immigration laws. and renunciation of national citizenship and loyalty to former country and restrictions on receiving any public assistance for 5 yrs.

Other than that I say stand by the old gal in NY harbor. Give me your tired your poor your huddled masses yearning to breath free. As a matter of fact i think most legal Immigrants get it more than some of us Americans and are highly motivated.

Katsulover- As a Professional historian I am well aware of the origins of Lady Liberty as well as the plaque. I am alsoaware that if you look it up that the argument you are using are close to verbatim to many of the arguments used in the immigration waves of the of the early 1880's, early 1890's as well as the first quarter of the 20th century. America for the Americans was a very popular campaign slogan early in the last century. I say this also as a very conservative American in almost every respect.
the problem sir is not immigration it is assimilation for that you can thank those that advocate cultural awareness, bilingual requirements, racial and ethnic sensitivity. these are all programs to seclude seclude and insulate people from the mases. Most of us in America do not equate ourselves as primarily African Americans , Jewish Americans, Irish Americans or Chinese Americans. Yes we Cherish the roots from which we came but we are Americans first not Irish or Chinese or German. Yes we Celebrate the dish we brought to this grand potluck we call America but our fathers came to get a taste of the whole banquet and we are all beneficiaries of it. .
