The time difference between USA east coast and New Zealand is most easily remembered, as the USA east coast is a day behind and 6 hours ahead of New Zealand. In other words, if it is 12 noon on Thursday on the east coast of USA it is 6 AM on Friday in New Zealand. (This accounts for Daylight Savings Time in both countries.)

Well, it depends on which place in US and which place in New Zealand you are talking about.
For New Zealand Standard Time zone is 12 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+12).
New Zealand operates Daylight saving Time from the first Sunday in October until the first Sunday on or after 15 March, when the time is GMT+13. For New Zealand – Chatham add another 45 minutes.
Standard Time starts: 1st Sunday after 15 March
Summer Time starts: 1st Sunday in October
USA Time Zones
The United States spans 6 time zones. It shares the main four time zones with Canada:
Eastern Standard Time (EST), the time zone New York is in, which is 5 hours behind Greenwich mean Time (GMT)
Central Standard Time (CST), the time zone Chicago is in, which is 6 hours behind Greenwich Meantime (GMT)
Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is 7 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
Pacific Standard Time (PST), the time zone Los Angeles is in, which is 8 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
Alaska and Hawaii have their own time zones: Alaska Standard Time (AKST) and Hawaii Standard Time (HST) respectively.
Daylight Saving Time begins for most of the United States at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April. Time reverts to standard time at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of October.
This will change in 2007.
Daylight Saving Time, for the U.S. and its territories, is NOT observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the state of Arizona (not the Navajo Indian Reservation, which does observe). Navajo Nation participates in the Daylight Saving Time policy, due to its large size and location in three states.
