she just fell off the banister, which is about two inches higher than a basic room door. she went to a dark corner and just sat there. i took her to my room and laid her on my bed. she is sleeping. before she fell, she was really hyper and playing. and now, she seems sluggish and sleepy and tired. when i rub her forehead, she purrs. but i feel like something is wrong. i read somewhere that cats are really good at hiding their injuries. its too late to go to the vet, its closed. and i dont know what to do! will she be ok?? when she fell, she did not land on her feet. maybe on her side?? it happened so fast! please tell me what to do??

If she is still conscious and not in any obvious pain, taking her to the vet can wait until they open. Open up your yellow pages or use yellowpages.com and get the phone number of an emergency vet, just in case. This way it'll be at hand if you do notice something wrong with her. Watch for obvious signs of pain, seizures, unnatural breathing, or anything out of the ordinary. If any of those occur, call the emergency vet - better safe than sorry!

I think she will be okay. :o) Just make sure you go ahead and take her to the vet when they open, even if she starts acting like normal again. You are right about cats being able to hide their pain. In the wild, they would hide their pain in order to not be perceived as weak.

Kittens are pretty resistant. As long as it isnt bleeding from its mouth and you dont notice any blood in the litter box and it is breathing ok and not sensitive being touched anywhere the little one should be just fine. Awhile back a mother cat had her kittens above my kitchen ceiling. She somehow got in under the roof . I opened up the ceiling to look at the kittens with a mirror and she got mad I guess and either did this on purpose or by accident but she dropped all four kittens in between the wall. I ended up breaking a big hole in the wall to get them out. They barely had thier eyes open and I had to bottle feed them. The drop they had is an easy 7 feet and they were only like 2 weeks old. Just watch for blood.

Cats are pretty robust creatures. It's unlike a fall from that height would have done her much damage unless she fell really badly. It's not unusual for kittens that age to be running around madly one minute and then sleeping like the dead the next either. Even if they are injuried they have tremendous powers of recovery.

You'll probably find after a bit of a sleep she's fine again but keep an eye on her and if she's not herself when the vets reopens, pop down with her.

ok...first calm down. I know you are worried. Next watch the signs of your cat. if she is purring it is a good sign. Keep her warm and let her know that everything is ok. She is probably fine. I speak from experience. My indoor cat fell twice from a third story building...one of those times he landed on pavement. The first time this happened he ran to a nearby porch and hunkered down till I could find him. Once I did his heart was beating fast and he was obviously scared. I just held him and brought him inside and watched his signs. The second time was very similar. Cats are some of the most dynamic animals in the world even house cats. the saying 9 lives is not for show. Your kitten probably just scared herself more than anything. If she refuses to eat or go to the bathroom normally I would seek a vet at that time...assuming there are no ovbious signs of bleeding or broken bones. Good luck.

She's fine. Probably just knocked the wind out of her. Let her rest and in a couple days she should be back to normal. Anyways she still has 8 lives left!

Just watch her carefully until the morning.. My cat fell about 6 feet on his head and it caused an aneurism and had to put him to sleep which was very painful for me.

Get her to the vest ASAP. I don't know if she has any injuries - she may just be recovering from the shock but better safe than sorry - get her there now and keep us updated.
