It seems that most of the stereotypes of Christians among Muslims is that we all worship Mary, have liturgical worship, follow the Pope, and instigated the Crusades.

Why is this?

Why don't they realize that most Christians are Protestants?

Yeah, we are more than just used to sects :-p

I guess its because of the Pope and the Vatican.
Thats what they see in the news, like 99% of the time, just like most of what you see of "Islam" in the news is the terrorist acts "inspired" from Islamic teachings.

Because, it does not matter who you are Catholic, Greek, Romain, Orthodox, etc etc. All Christians are Christians. To them they are all the same, and they will blame every single Christian on earth for the crusade as they have done in the past, and as they well do always. that is all am going to say about the crusades.

How are we to blame the Muslims if they believe we worship Mary, when you the Christian think that we worship Her!? You should know by now that the Catholic do NOT worship Her.

You bring up an stunning element, JS. right this is my very own take. i'm a Protestant. i do no longer see sufficient compelling evidence of the primacy of Peter to have faith contained in the thought of him with the aid of fact the appointed head of the Church. If I did, i might might desire to be a Catholic, with the aid of fact the different arguement could be a moot element, what with Papal innerency on doctrinal subject concerns and all. yet I even have my beefs with the Protestant portion of the living house, too. i won't be able to help yet have faith that Martin Luther might have stumbled on a greater effective way than splitting the Church. no longer that the Catholic Church is all that catholic in recent times, what with jap and Greek orthodoxy, the extremely some sects interior of Roman Catholicism, and different divisions, yet a minimum of they attain out to a minimum of one yet another. that's stressful to get a Baptist to even confer with a Methodist on occasion, and are not getting me began on Pentecostal hang-ups! i think of the real problem that maximum Protestants have with Catholics is that we do only no longer understand Liturgy. they do no longer understand why it is so significant to fling water at human beings and burn incence. they do no longer recognize the fee of conserving issues in that little gold container. and then there is transubstantiation. If Paul believed the bread and the wine have been incredibly the physique and blood, then why did he communicate over with it as bread and a cup in I Corinthians 11? yet you're precise, of course. we are able to be a tiresome lot. yet are not there tiresome human beings in each and every team?

But all Catholics and Protestants are Christians.
All Shiihs and Sunnis are Muslims.
All Hinayanists and Mahayanists are Buddhists.
If you see great separation among followers of the same religion, then how greater the separation would be among followers of different religions.
Then Who can teach the believers of all religions about the unity of mankind?

ok I feel the need to correct you, since I am a Roman Catholic...

We do not worship Mary, only God is to be worshipped, Mary is honored and we pray for her help and guidance... you can't just assume things, If you aren't Catholic and if you haven't truly studied the Catholic Faith under the help of a Taditional Roman Catholic, then you don't know the truth about it... you can't learn the Catholic Faith from a Protestant point of view, thats hypocritical...

and I'm not even going to start with your Crusades comment...

You need to work on your own stereotypes.

+ Most Christians are Catholic +

According to Adherents.com, there are 2.1 billion Christians in the world. 1.1 billion of them are Catholics.

http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html#Christianity

+ Mary and the Saints +

Catholics do not worship Mary or the saints.

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints. You, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends here on earth to pray for you. Or you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother in heaven to pray for you.

Prayer to saints is communication, not worship.

The Hail Mary prayer simply recites Bible passages (the Word of God) and asks Mary to pray for us:

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with you. (These are the words the angel Gabriel said to Mary, a Bible quote.)

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. (This is Mary's cousin Elizabeth's greeting, another bible quote.)

Holy Mary, (The angel Gabriel said she was full of grace and Elizabeth said she was blessed.)

Mother of God, (the Bible says Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son)

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. (A simple request to pray for us.)

Amen.

+ The Crusades +

Muslim armies had conquered much of northern Africa, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, and Spain, which had been some of the most heavily Christian areas in the world.

Thousands, and possibly millions, of Christians died during this drive to eventually bring the entire world under Islam.

The First Crusade was launched in 1095 by Pope Urban II to check the advance of the Muslims and regain control of the city of Jerusalem and the Holy Land.

I am sure that some atrocities were committed by both sides during this war but by most people's judgment this was a just war.

+ "Roman" Catholics +

The Catholic Church has consistently referred to itself as the “Catholic Church” at least since 107 AD, when the term appears in the writings of St. Ignatius of Antioch

The term "Roman" Catholic is rather recent.

The new Anglican Church in England started using the term “Roman” in the 1500s as one of many ways of demeaning and demonizing Catholics.

Catholics accepted this late coming adjective without too much protest. Today “Catholic” and “Roman Catholic” are interchangeable terms. Both terms are even used in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The term “Roman” neither increases nor decreases the faith, hope and love of the Catholic Church.

+ With love in Christ.
