Do you feel air in your stomach? Try hitting your tip of finger at your stomach. If there is a hollow feeling - you have air in your stomach; you will not be able to sleep. Pinch with your right hand on your left hand at the triangular space between the first finger and thumb. This should reduce the amount of distress in your stomach.
One way is to try drinking water. After urine has been discharge, drink again. a) This should make you tired enough at the same time ensure that the air in the stomach is replaced b) it will also reduce / dilute the acid in your stomach.
Another way is try relaxation exercises before you sleep.
Ask yourself what activities you have been practicing 4-5 hours before you sleep. See a counsellor or hynotherapist if required.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

If you're really desperate, here's a list of the strongest sleep-inducing things I have ever come across (to be done in the order they are listed):
- eat a pasta or carbohydrate-rich meal at least 1 hour before bedtime
- take a warm bath
- drink a glass of red wine (warmed to room temperature) or warm chamomile tea before going to bed
- read AND understand any philosophical treatise written by any of the 19th and 20th century European philosophers (e.g. Karl Marx or Gabriel Marcel).
I used to do this process back in college, and I could never get past the 2nd paragraph of a required reading on Karl Marx before going zzzzzzz....Good God, having to study those silly old communist ideals for Philosophy 101 just put me to sleep!

You can be lying down & doing nothing, but is your mind still active on things you need to do, or from worrying about stuff? If you can't turn your mind off at night, then you can't fall asleep.
When you get in bed, lay on your back & start with your feet...make them totally relax (you can feel it) then go on to making your lower legs relax & work your way upward to every part of your body, even your neck & head. Think of nothing else except relaxing all the parts of the body one by one. Sometimes even when you think you're relaxed, you'll find theres tension in different parts of the body that you hadn't realized before. Usually when I do this, I fall asleep way before I reach the upper half of my body.
You also might want to try a cup of camomile tea before bed. I've also used meletonin & valerian. You can get them from most drug stores or a health store. They work pretty darned good at making you drowsy enough to go to sleep.
But the main thing is clearing your mind of everything & relaxing. And if all else fails, go see a doctor about it. I take Elavil for migraines but it also has an added factor. If I take 50 mg. an hour before bedtime, by the time it's bedtime I'm so drowsy I have to go to bed right then or I'll fall asleep where ever I'm at...LOL. All this has worked for me. Hope it helps you & good luck!

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Have you tried any herbs? I've heard some of those work. Here's a link:
http://www.christopherhobbs.com/website/library/articles/article_files/herbs_for_insomnia.html
I've heard of some relaxation techniques where you tighten your muscles and relax. Never worked for me though. So, I called my dr and got a prescrip for Ambien. Not the Ambien CR, but the other one. I take it on occasion.
Exercise helps me too.

Did you try a hot cup of chocolate/cocoa with plenty of milk? If that doesn't work, then something is one your mind - it is psychological. Get to one these sleep medicine clinics or see a psychologist/neurologist.

Melatonin, you can get it at GNC and other vitamin type shops. Works great without feeling groggy the next day.
