I know it sounds strange but i heard that a Great Dane was good.
Its not my kinda dog but if its a dog your looking for.
This was on a pets and vets tv show i watched.
They said although you would think small dogs would be better they are not because they are full of energy and need lots of exercise but a Great Dane is happy just to chill out.
I also read that most spanels and the basset hound are good as they are low energy dogs. Be very careful not to get big bosterous dogs that need a backyard and lots of room to play - like collies or retreviers or small toy dogs that will bark all day like a fox terrier or poodle. We think smaller space smaller dog but apparently its not right, it needs to be smaller energy levels so they wont rip up or scream down your place.
Good luck!
And dont listen to everyone who says not to get a dog just cos you live in a flat/apartment. It will be harder but if you love pets its so worth it! Enjoy

dogs could be chosen for his or her requirement and artwork. If u desire it basically as a puppy then a number of the counseled breeds are Alsatians, Boxer, Doberman and large Danes, yet bear in mind pedigreed dogs have allied well-being issues. For an Indian village it will be perfect to %. up a domestic dog from a close-by clutter and save it as a puppy, he's greater suitable for the climate and environment.

I am not sure if u r particualr abt a dog. A persian cat can be absolutely indoors. H/ever, if u do need a dog, a beagle or a pug or a dalmatian are lovely and intelligent. I have had a great experience with a dalmatian. I myself cld train him in 1 month time.

A mini dachshund (weiner dog). They are so cute and funny. They also stay around 10 lbs. You should check them out.
Also I agree with shphrdgrl. I also never thought I would ever get a mini dachshund. My dog Oscar will go all night with out having to go to the bathroom and he also sleep alot. He is very affectionate and nice. He is also a great watch dog. He lets me know when someone is at my house. Mini dachshud's can climb stairs, so you will not have to worry about carrying him up and down.

Any small dog should be okay. I suggest researching a few small breeds to see how much exercise is needed and how much maintenance is involved. I would also then suggest litter training. However, no matter how small and how little exercise they need . . . . they should still be taken out for walks and be socialized. Good luck!

I have a bichon/cavalier mix he's 25 lbs and won't get any bigger. He's non-allergenic and never sheds! I've had him 1 yr and I love him so much! His fur is long and extremely soft! He reminds me of a shaggy stuffed animal, he so cuddly. At first he barked when I'd leave but after getting a shock collar he quickly learned in the house was quiet unless I was playing with him.

any small dog from an animal shelter that's in need of a good home!!
I found the larger dogs are miserable when they don't have room to run. I had a boxer that I had to get rid of becuz of living in a downtown apartment!! :( He was depressed being cooped up all the time.

We have a Miniature Dachshund. They are great dogs. I never thought I would actually own one, but my husband brought him home for me one day. He will go all night without having to go potty, and only has to go out a few times a day. They learn very fast. Very affectionate dogs. And he sleeps allot, so when we aren't playing with him he is very quiet. he is great with our 2 daughters (1 and 3). though you have to find one with the right temperament. His sister (the neighbors dog) is the total opposite from him. Every dog is different.

A toy breed would be suitable. Then you can litter box train them. I litter box trained my puppy. I researched and found this site and it has worked out well. I used instructions under "Crate Style Training" http://www.kturby.com/litter/litter.htm

hi!
would suggest you pick out a terrier... they are smaller in size, but not too tiny, very loving and adaptible, and can be trained in a breeze...
they can be great companions, as they are among the most intelligent dogs. they may require a lot of grooming, as most terriers have long-ish fur... but they'll make ideal apartment pets...
have fun!
