I have a friend that has a german shepard that absolutely hates everybody. He attacks the doors of the house and is very violent when hes around strangers.

He's only normal if he knows u have a doggie treat in your hand. How do i go about taming him without having treats all the time?

Your friend should be shot for not training his/her dog - twice because it is a big (and potentially savage) breed.

That being said, the best way for you to become one of his trusted people is to be a provider. If you feed him his meal while you are there it will help. Also if you discipline him firmly he will gather that you are the more inteligent being, thus forming a trust with you. Currently you are below him in the pack, and you have to get above, and the only way to do that is to be the dominant one. Good luck!

Sounds like your friend needs to work with his/her dog. Treating the dog everytime he does this is just renforcing the bad behavior. He is sort of like a child throw a fit get what I want oh that worked so do it again. Instead the dog should be corrected when he does this. Try having your friend restrain the dog and have them introduce you to him by letting him smell the back of your hand while the friend is talking to the dog and reasurring him that you are a friend. When positive behavior is achieved then reward.

It sounds like the dog never developed the social skills that he should have. You may have to start off slow by keeping him on a control collar and leash, and bringing friends around him. When he starts to react in an aggressive manner, make the correction with the leash. Keep doing this over and over with people. Also, don't reward him for bad behavior. If he is growling and acting out and you give him a treat to calm him down.......

That dog has been trained to act that way. Maybe not intentionally but, still trained. As long as there is a reward in the dogs mind for doing it He Will.

Give it something to eat. Dogs always go for food. So give it food, and the dog will then start to know that u give it. Then later, u can pet it and play with it. Give it a little time

Try not to be afraid of him and pet him a lot if he'll let you. He will eventually learn that your affection is just as rewarding, if not more so, than the treats.
