The UK is becoming a police state, but the idea of fingerprinting drivers when they are stopped by the police seems over the top. If the UK had ID cards, then all this nonsense would stop. Next thin you'll have is that the police can take a cheek-swab from anyone they care to stop on the street, for DNA records. Isn't the ID card a better option.

ID cards will have fingerprints on them!

I'm not against fingerprinting - I just think it would be much easier to introduce an ID card - with finger prints, which people in the UK had to carry with them. As far as I can see there is still a lot of hoo-ha about infringement of provace regarding ID cards.

That should be privacy. - It's getting late where I am.

Is there anybody out there who can read? I'm all for ID cards. I just don't understand why most of the people who answered are fpr fingerprinting whilst there is strong resistence to ID cards. I have an ID card and I had one in Hong Kong. No problem.

Why do we have to have either? We have a totalitarian government. ID cards will not solve terrorism. And the potential for bureaucratic ****-ups is immense.

'Neonbabe' is incredibly naive, you do have something to fear, the misuse of the information.

It's funny to hear some of these answers about freedom and not wanting police states. But the first time a terrorist blows something up, those are the same people are are first to blame the government for not doing anything. If you don't think that it should be done, give them a better solution to stop terrorism and the threat of terrorism. Don't just stand by whining that someone took your fingerprint, listened to your phone call, set up road blocks and search everyone's car. I say they need to do what they need to do to help protect us from those who wish us all dead. I have no problem with fingerprints.

sorry but i think its a good idea.

the police can only do it if they've stopped you and you can refuse it but if you've done nothing wrong then why worry??!!

its to help stop the scum that continuously drive with no tax, insurance or mot, also those that still insist in drinking and driving.
they won't be able to give false names anymore as their fingerprints will show their true identity.

these people would have already had their fingerprints taken as they would have been arrested before so there is no need for the general law abiding public to worry.

i.d cards are a good idea but they could be forged, its very difficult to forge fingerprints (well, not in james bond but we live in the real world!!)

U seem to be paranoid, why not have details recorded, and if u were areested for an offence the Police have the right to have your dteails, thats why thousands of crimes are being cleared up through DNA. I, personally think its a good idea, but then u may not, ur not going to change the future, nor avoid being caught if ur a baddie, so be good and safe, and let peace reign

"genuinely all and sundry interior the international has distinctive finger prints" certainly, it appears that evidently may no longer unavoidably real. it extremely is been consumer-friendly presumption for an exceedingly long term, yet evidence is surfacing that it could't be maximum astounding. yet, to answer your question . . . social safety numbers are unique. DL numbers are (theoretically) unique interior the issuing state (nonetheless i've got self belief some states do "recycle" very old numers). License plates are, lower back, unique interior the issuing state. Library enjoying cards, student identity enjoying cards, and so on. could be unique to the issuing entity, yet who extremely is usual with.

no the id card is a worse option they will just get faked, finger printing is a much better option they don't just pull people over at random if someone is pulled over they are most likely committing a driving offense anyway

surely if you've done nothing wrong then no-one should be afraid of anything. Having biometric data on file can help catch rapist, muderers and other criminals. Im sure you'd be sayin the opposite thing if one of these crimes happened to you and they were caught using this data!
