The name Yusuf Islam appeared on the US' braindead no-fly list, preventing him from travelling internationally. Other names on the no-fly list include John Lewis and James Moore, so it has nothing to do with religion, just incompetent bureaucracy.

He is called Yusef as in all English speaking countries you call people by their first name but his full name is still Yusef Islam and after all what is strangest being called Yusef or ....Cat !! LOL

I should let you know that Yusef Islam has done alot of work for Islam.
It's news to me that he has dropped the Islam off his name...
Anyway if this has happened... when did it happen, and above all why?

This was probably the advise of the marketing manager of his record company. I have no idea of his figures but possibly he is not doing so well in the charts

He went against all odds and lost a whole lot to be courageous and swim against the tide. I never heard that he dropped the second part of his name.

No, I assure you he has no shame. Stevens has always been a fringe lunatic. I listened to his music in the early 70's. It did not take long for me to understand what a fool he was then. He is no different today. If he has changed his name again, it only means he is tired of it. I would not be surprised if he begins to worship cows or camels next. He was heavily influenced by the West Coast drug culture when he was young. His brain has been long dead.
