I need some advice please. I would like to buy my Dad sky+ for xmas. He has the sports and movies package already. sky are advertising sky+ for £99 with free installation, if you take out multiroom, I don't want the multi room as this would cost him an extra £10 a month, but then I would have to pay for installation??? Am I correct so far? I want to know is there any way of haggling as I'm not the subscribed person? Also if you did have the multiroom would sky give the additional box as the one he already has is extremely old and jumpy? sorry there are so many question!

If you do it before Christmas there is no installation charge (i know this as i have just had it installed for my daughter)and if the box that you have at the moment is not working well thy will give you a new one free of charge

If your dad has been a good payer you may be able to negotiate a "gesture of goodwill" with SKY to save him that extra tenner. Advise SKY fro example that you are annoyed with the fact that the box is old and jumpy and you have heard that NTL:Telewest are launching a digital service similar to SKY+ in the spring (this is true). State that although you want to experience the benefits of SKY+ and have been happy to date you are concerned that the service will not be up to scratch (if you think you can put up a convincing case for these worries) - kick up a polite fuss and state that if they don't offer you the SKY+ without the additional multi-room feature you will move to NTL:Telewest. Alternatively try to tug on the heart strings in that your dad is "not as mobile as he used to be/has no need for multi room" and if no joy, see if the situation can be escalated to a manager for further discussion. All managers have a "discretionary limit" and as long as you stay level-headed and genuine about the needs of your dad then you could well negotiate a deal. Remember as a crucial note of importance that your dad must make the call with account and data protection details to hand before authorising you to discuss the account on his behalf - this shouldn't be a problem as long as he doesn't mention you until he has passed data protection. If there should be a problem, again it could be an inexperienced rep worried about getting in trouble for disobeying data protection legislation (SKY are very strict) so make sure he escalates this to an experienced manager. Hopefully this should sort it out, the one thing to remember is don't get angry/shout the odds about what a loyal customer you've been etc because this doesn't do the trick in the case of residential customers - the profit margins are lower than business customers etc - harsh but true.
Hope the info is useful.

Often called a "Freeview PVR" (Personal Video Recorder) and the answer is "yes, if you want to record". THe Humax model seems to be the most popular but read the reviews and decide for yourself.
