Are pole beans and string beans different?

If so what is the difference can i cook them together. I wanted to make string beans and they looked the sam eso I need to know they are a part of the big dinner

Its all about the little runners the beans climb..
some climb on string and some climb on poles... that is how they got the name.. depends upon the region you live in...
