I'm going to get a tattoo today but i haven't decided between two places to put it. I think i would like it in the middle of my lower back. the other place i thought about was the shoulder but if i do then i can't wear strapless dresses without it showing. So i have two questions, where would you put it, and do you think over time it would be less likely to change (as in if weight changes)? Thanks

I'm not talking about if the style changes im talking about what place on the body would be least likely to change over time. Also i don't care if it shows on the shoulder just thinking of like weddings and stuff in a dress

I won't do it if I were you. You might like it today but tomorrow you might not like it. If you have it removed it will leave a scar and that stays there until you die.

I have 16 tattoos but would never dream of putting one on my lower back. It seems really trendy at the moment...almost every other girl I know has a tattoo on her lower back. I always put mine where they are visible. I however am not a casual tattoo collector. My favorite tattoo placement on myself is on my chest. Not like a name or a little rose on a boob, but the kind that sprawl over the chest plate. I completed a full color chest piece over the summer and it looks awesome.
If you're worried about weight gain, I'd say the safest place would be the back of your neck or your shoulders ( you can cover both of those).
But the BEST advice I can give you is to be sure you love your design; and never pick it off the wall! Good luck and good tattooing to you!

If you plan on gaining weight, or getting an epidural during pregnancy, don't get it on your lower back, as fats distribute more around the waist.
If you're going to get a tattoo- don't cover it up. Really the only reason to do so is to keep a professional appearance, and a strapless dress isn't exactly professional. Don't get it if you're going to want to hide it, their sole purpose is to decorate the body- not hide somewhere.

I have 11 tats, my wrists, upper arms, shoulders, back and hip. The oldest 1 is over 20 years now and looks as good as it did the day I got it. I wear tank tops all the time, work in the sun all summer long and want to get a few more before I croak. Proud of all of them!

I understand the whole getting a tattoo on your back thing...I just got my first one a week ago and I got it on my right shoulder...at first I was wondering "What about when I get married? What will that look like?"...The best thing I can say is to get a "classy" tattoo that won't look gaudy when you dress up for something nice...I got a littl treble clef, and when I put on a dress, it looks good

i have a tattoo on my back that can be seen when wearing tank tops and strapless things... it is a factor when chosing clothes. but generally i don't care if my tattoo can be seen or not. i just don't want my grandparents to see it. and i rarely need to wear strapless dresses around them. so whatever you chose will look wonderful i'm sure. you can request that they apply the stencil to both your lower back and your shoulder to see what you personally would like the best. good luck!!

I think the best place to put it would be the middle of your lower back, cause that's cutter than on your shoulder, and it shouldn't change if you keep your weight right.

My biggest objection to getting a tattoo is that someday I will be an 80-year-old woman with a sagging butterfly or rose on my wrinkly body. It makes me shudder.
However, if you're going to do it, why would you want it in a place where it wouldn't show? They cost a lot of money, you know!

I have 3 tattoos and they are hidden so no one but my hubby can see any of them. I've had mine for over 10 years and they still look good. However I'm still thin.
The one on your lower back is called a "tramp stamp". I wonder why????

I have 3 tats on my shoulder blade and it hasn't affected my wearing of strapless dresses. I just pick colors that compliment my skin and my ink. Lots of girls get tats on the small of the back. Where I'm from, we call them "welcome mats". The best place to get them, as far as stretching goes, I would suggest the back, wrists and ankles.

Tattoos do change over time. I got mine many years ago and they look like crap now. Look at old men with tattoos. That's what your's will look like some day.
