Has it anything to do with their physical makeup or is it purely due to societal norms and perceptions?

I'm from Singapore and corporal punishment of females is not done here. Is this the same thing for countries in which corporal punishment is not banned?

I'm not sure where you are, so the question presumes facts I don't have. My experience with corporal punishment included no such exemption. Where it was allowed, females were subject to it. Where it was banned, it was banned.

However, when I was in grade school, the females were generally better behaved, and I don't recall nearly as many incidents of the girls getting slapped on the wrist with a ruler as the boys.

Until recently, women were generally given lighter punishment than men for the same crime especially those of child bearing age or had kids.

I think it is because those people spanking the females might enjoy it too much.
