I have a 25 inch Philips-Magnavox model # TS2744 C106 that turns on okay but about a minute later it turns off. This happens every time .I am clueless and wonder if I should just bash it , or is this a simple problem to correct ? The TV was manufactured in Greenville , TN. Sept 1997 and theres not a scratch on it but it just sits there because I cannot turn it on. Any Ideas ?

Could be dust in the contacts on the switch, but if u take the back off, turn it on & watch when it goes off, & see a big spark & snap or ark of power jump to the tube from a small box like fuse with 2 wires coming out of it, Look this fuse over & if it has a crack in it, get some 5 min. apoxy & cover it completely with a thick coat, should work for about a year or so,

It could be loose solder connections (good possibility), defective voltage regulator, defective high voltage transformer, CRT, etc. There are many things that could cause this symptom. Unless the set only saw very light usage then I would recommend that you just replace it. Sets are designed to last about ten years with average use. You can sell the old one on eBay to recover part of your money.

If the set was only used lightly then call a qualified service tech or take it to a reputable shop. Prepare to pay a reasonable fee for the service because these folks are very specialized and not so common as they once were.

there is a large capacitor that fails inthat chassis. the location is C432 if I remember correctly. when this cap starts to fail sometimes you notice right before the set turns off that the picture looses sync.
