It's a jail tattoo and means they've killed someone. I actually think it might mean they killed someone in prison, but don't quote me on that.

Thier is two reasons why people get the tear drop under thier eye.. The first a main reasno why some do it is becouse they lost a close friend of thiers that ment somthing to them.. The second reason is like some others have said it means that they have killed people and they get that as a way of showing to others that they are violent and a bad *** for when they do end up in jail for thier crimes.. Its a tattoo that alot of gang memebers mostly have and not just a prison tattoo even though thats were they normaly get them done at...and thats the real meaning behind the tattoo its the holder of the tattoo that makes the diffrence and im sure alot of people get that one done for more reasons then what has been stated and it dont mean you were some guys bioch in jail either LOL..

The teardrop off the corner of the eye is one of the oldest prison gang tattoos in the book. There are really only two meanings for it. 1. The guy spent time in prison and it was a hard, sorrowful time. 2. The teardrop indicates that he killed somebody in prison... the more tears, the more people. (This is far more likely than the first)

I can tell you why 'I' am getting a teardrop tattoo. and its a bit different than "the true meaning of it" I had a lot of tragedy in my life and lost A LOT of people whom I love dearly! and I am getting one because of true grief. but its for myself that I am getting it, so When I am in public I will cover it with makeup or something because its gonna be mine, I won't share my grief and I won't share my tattoo.( but I will share with you the reason why I am getting it.) but anyhow, i did hear that prisoners get the tattoo when their loved ones die while they are in prison because some of the prisoners don't even get to go to the funerals. .anyhow.. I cant wait to get my permanent teardrop tattoo!!!!!

Because its something that they believe in at that time! Like a cult thing, you know how a gang of girls like to wear pink all the time to symbolise their gang, because its something they made up! So someone must of sat down and thought 'i know lets get a tear tattoo each time we kill someone' and then it went on from there! to be honest i think it was a silly crase they went through at that time in there life! when they have grandchildren they will be like mommy why is grandad crying? Then they will have to explain how grandad was a silly boy when he was little!

Because they don't realise how dumb it looks after a few years! I have 5 tattoos which I love but some places should never be inked and the face is one of them!

The Aeryan Tear, means that you've served time and killed another man during this. Basically, you killed a guy in prison.

As other people have answered, it can symbolize the murder of someone, particularly in prison. But it can also symbolize someone in your gang or someone closed to you being killed in or out of prison. It all depends upon the region in which the tattoo was applied.

I was told by an ex-convict that the tears are given to the person by gang members after they kill someone. Not sure if this is true, just repeating what I was told.
