I would have to say sons are more helpful. Most times a boy is raised to be loyal to his parents, especially his father, and to work. Girls are raised on a silk pillow, and given the idea that work(other than some housework) is forbidden. Just take a look at the clothing girls and boys wear, it is a dead give away--a boys standard outfit is jeans and a tee shirt, a girl wears a frilly dress that she dare not dirty.
I am not saying all genders fall into this stereotype, but most of the times this is what happens. This is coming from a woman by the way, mother of a son.

Sons. Albeit, in the teenage years, both sons and daughters are equally unhelpful and uncooperative. If you have kids under the age of 13, be thankful, for you'll discover that your teenagers will be the bane of your existance until they move out.
Luckily, we have some teenagers in this society that are an asset to everyone, and glad to help... but they're seldom found in this day and age.

I say Sons. My daughter has been a pure demon since the day she was born, I think her goal in life is to make my hair turn from black to pure grey as fast as she can. My daughter is hell on wheels. Can I give a shout out to my son? Hey Cameron, I love you, can your sister move in w/ you?

Both can be utilized in the same matter, yet my recommendation is: boys to dad, Girls to mom...
or mix it up if appropriate.....
