I just come here to Answers to kill the hours before I go to work.

the nite before thanx'given:
hope you get some sleep for big bird day. watching a silly football game and turkey makes almost anyone sleepy. but, unfortunately, that offers no daily solution. i have had insomia since i was a little boy. i am now 64 and it still lingers. i have know many people who complain of the problem and i am really jealous of those who just go in in bed at 9, 10 or 11 and fall fast asleep. night after night! i drank, i popped pills, i swilled nyquil etc etc. the only thing that worked for me was hard exercise. mainly some serious running until i was in my 50s. looking back i can really see the coorelation. trouble is, i cannot run anymore. drugs (that includes scotch and bud) gradually make it much worse. i am bi-polar it seems. they have diagnosed everything over the years with me. i have read about it and such a thing wasn't mentioned back in the seventies when i was working like hell, married with children, and raising a little hell, too. i finally had to agree that i am a bi-polar. i take lamictal and a couple of other things. it is different. your, my emotional states rise and fall like a sine wave. some medications like this lamictal stuff isn't so bad. it kinda knocks of the peaks and makes me a kinder and gentler bi-polar. and i sleep better, too.

Learn and Practice "Mindfulness Meditation"
Anything by Jon Kabat-Zinn is Most Excellent
Also read "Calming Your Anxijous Mind" by Jeffrey Brantley
And "Working with Anger" by Thubten Chodron
I have read these books and they have helped me a great deal. And I have practiced Mindfulness Meditation for some time now (only 10 min. a day) and haven't had any trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. I average 8 hrs of sleep a night. And I had insomnia also. Use to only get 2 to 4 hours a sleep a night, sometimes less.

It depends if this has only been going on for a short time of a long time, if its only been going on for lets say the past week or so look at your sleeping hapits are you going to bed at the same time every night have drank any coffee or tea later then usally do. Did you change the brand of coffee or tea since this has been going on. do you sleep during the day, the body will get us to the pattern you sleep if you take a nap during the day your body might not need to sleep and will keep you up at night. And do you have stress that will do it. The last time I went on a trip I couldn't sleep for a week. Best thing to do is don't worry the more you worry the more stress builds up. And if that doesn't help go see a doctor.

I don't know any quick fixes, but I used to have frequent insomnia and found that only going into my bedroom to sleep (and especially not sitting or lying on the bed when not trying to sleep) helped a lot. Also, reading sometimes seems to make me drowsy. And, if nothing else, melatonin supplements are helpful.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

I'm sorry for your suffering. There are things that can help you. Benedyrl is available over the counter and comes in 25mg capsules. one or two of those should do the trick. There is also a widely available herb called melatonin and it works well----I do prefer the benedryl since it leaves no hangover.

I feel that these helped my insomnia...
Lavendar oil is relaxing in a bath.
Or drinking soothing chamomile tea.
Calming smells make your brain produce more alpha waves therefore helping you sleep.
And make sure you dont watch tv too much- it strains your eyes alot.
Good luck to you
