i'm afraid because a coldsore is a virus that the only way to effectively treat them is with an antibiotic remedy either tablets or zoviarax cream, if you feel a natural remedy has worked i'm afraid to say that it was probably only chance, and it'll resurface within a shorter period of time than you would get reinfected. there are remedies which will help dry the coldsore up , but not cure the virus

Hi. Coldsores are the bane of my life eekkk and i get them about 4 times a year. I have tried everything and i don't think there is a natural cure once the infection starts but the last time i got one as soon as i felt it i put on zervirez and cold sore patch (don't know the name but you know the new clear patches you can get for the chemist) on top of that and it did not blister and was gone in 2 days! And for me that is good.

No natural remedy work as good as Zovirax can. I suffer a lot from cold sores and tried everything out there.
Yes the aftershave will dry it and keep it clean but will not speed up the healing. Don't even bother with toothpaste as you will only irritate it and make it spread.
Without Zovirax a cold sore takes two weeks to clear, the scub and pinky scar too, with the cream you are looking at 5 days to a week.

L-Lysine amino acid - its available from Holland and Barret in the UK.
Also take Zinc and Vit C to boost your immune system.
They can stop the onset if you take them soon enough (when you get that tingling), if you don't they speed the recovery time.
The L-Lysine also reduces the chance of getting a coldsore, if there is a particular time you are prone to them.
My partner and my son both use this regime with good results.
I am lucky, as so far (touch wood), I have managed to avoid catching the herpes virus.
Here is a link for the L-Lysine http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/lly_0166.shtml

I can appreciate you wanting to use a "natural" remedy , but having suffered badly since I was a child with cold sores (I am now 57), I tried many remedies and the only thing that gives a good positive relief and builds up a long term immunity is ZOVIRAX . you can get it from any good pharmacy , use it liberally when you get that tell tale tingle and it reduces the effects and over time you will find that you hardly ever get them .
although it is a viral infection , some things will help "fire them off" I found that dust on my mouth would irritate and also beechams powders caused an outbreak , we are all different , but trust me ZOVIRAX works , it just does what it says on the tube

Its an effort but its worth it, I've not had one for over a year. Try this. Every day take 1 multivitamin and 1 vit C tablet with zinc. Also 4 times a day take 1 nat mur 6mg (available from boots or health food stores) If you're exposed to any of your usual triggers - mine are lack of sleep, cold winds, sunlight, stress. Then take 1 x 30mg nat mur for that day. Also try the varilight cold sore machine, it works with natural light. I've not needed it but it works really well for my son, as soon as you feel one, use the machine twice a day. Hope this helps

I suffer from coldsores and believe I've tried everything to get rid of them. You won't. The virus is in your system and you'll never get rid of it. A couple of suggestions for easing the discomfort and aiding quick recovery. Try aftershave or eau de cologne (no joke - they work) or if you want a recognised medical solution, then go for Zovirax - available from any chemists.

You may find that the natural methods of dealing with cold sores can be quite expensive and long winded.
There are many natural cures about. Talking of about...About is a good site to go to. Cathy Wong's page is qiete informative.

Just check the prices first. I do like the suggestion about Red Grapes from CAthy.

ColdsoreHerbal is the only Herbal treatment for Cold Sores that actually works. It is made from a very unique Native-American herb, which has been shown to be an effective immune booster, helping you fight against the viral infection which causes the cold sore itself. ColdsoreHerbal is safe, nontoxic and extremely effective.
