My husband and I are both Army and I am requesting a reassignment because our baby will need medical attention that is not available in Germany when he is born. He has requested reassignment as well, and we are MACP so he will be considered automatically according to the regulation. I am worried that it will not be approved though. Does anyone know of a case like this where the man got to go w/his wife and baby?

it's doubtful unless your son has a terminal illness and is not expected to live much longer.

You may want to look into the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). Any army clinic should be able to direct you into the right direction. The fact that you are MACP may complicate things, but the Army will do its best to maintain a balance between your childs needs and the needs of the Army. I know one couple in a similar situation, they were split up between an Army base, and a Air Force base (though both were Army). They were no more than 30 miles apart though, so it wasnt that bad.

Its tough to be military and married.

Generally the Army will put you where your training and skills are needed most and that can conflict with your own personal lives.

The militaries of most countries are struggling to enlist and retain service personnel, I would hope that they do the right thing but ulimately the needs of the country outweigh the needs of the individual.

There is always compassionate leave and other sorts of leave available, I would suggest you talk to your CO and see what can be done, even talk to the padre. The army chaplian corp exists for cases such as this and quite often they can help beyond the warm and fuzzy.

If worst comes to worst perhaps resignation ( or threat of ) will be sufficient to meet your needs. It would be better to have trained personnel sidelined for a small period than gone for good.

Good luck to yourslef and your family

I am so sorry to hear about your baby. I would look into it if I were you. Talk to your chain of command and the same with him, cause he needs to be there with you for y'alls child. I haven't heard anything of the sort, but then again I am only married to the army person, but I wish I knew what to tell you.
I wish you the best of luck and that everything comes out perfectly with your child. Thoughts and prayers with you!

it depends but you may be reassigned and he will have to wait until his tour is up and is reassigned.i know it sounds cruel but the army considers its needs first as it should but good luck and i hope everything works out.
