It could be a big lack of fulfillment of your needs, feeling worthless, or very disappointed, perhaps someone did something to you and you haven't been able to come to terms with it and give closure to a situation.
Ask yourself what it is, who made you feel so bad? There could be depression, a lack of assurance and feeling less, you'll have to take control of this and these deadly emotions. You have certain issues that if you search deep inside you'll be able to deal with it.

I'm not in anyway shape or form an expert- but this has happened to me and its perfectly normal.
When you sleep your conscious brain switches off except for lower end functions like breathing.
This is where your sub-conscious comes in. Home to all your deepest darkest hopes, fears, dreams and nightmares. Most you'd never admit you have and some you don't even know you have in your mind.
They form into dreams and you play them in your mind. But sometimes they are so vivid and so real that they wake elements of your conscious mind.
Case in point is a teenagers "wet" dreams. They may not even be dreaming about anything vaguely sexual- but they'll wake up in a bit of a state.
Same with you and your emotions. I would suggest that there is something that has happened to you recently that you have consciously processed and long since forgotten about. But it has lodged in your sub-conscious where it has been allowed to sit and grow until it becomes a dream.
A dream you are so sure is real that when you wake up, you've been crying.
Sounds a bit Matrix like, doesn't it Neo...

The subconscious affected your consciousness, this happens a lot, like you might have kicked the cover off and become cold and in most instances you will dream of a cold place. Most individuals who are involved in house fires and survive, report that they were dreaming about a fire and became hot (or something in that realm) and they then awoke to ultimately save their lives.

It's called Lucid dreaming, which just means it's really deep and real for you. I hate to sound all mushy but you might want to talk with someone about your feelings and find out what's bothering you. Usually us guys keep shi* bottled in and it has to explode some time, so maybe this is what's happening to you.

Gravity. When excess tears form in your eyes, they will flow out due to gravity and usually onto the areas surrounding the eyes. depending on your position, this might be the cheeks.

I don't know the scientific reason that it happens, but I've woke up crying before, on several occasions, so I think its pretty normal physically.

sometimes i feel that when we dream of something sad/bad, it really happened. sometimes these kind of things happened to me too. but i do know that dreams sometimes tells us what to do and how to take our course of action. it is the sub-con telling us what aspirations we have and what sort of things we fear.
