I really don't understand the purpose of the Book of Job. Why put through one of your most faithful believers through all that just to make a point?

For those of you who want to take jabs at Christians... please take those jabs to the "loaded" questions people ask to stir people up.

if you check the bible god did not feel the need satan enter in before god(twice) and said that if god would allow HIM (satan) to try job, job would curse god's face god allowede this trial if you will to insue only because #1. if the devil could not have time to prove himself wrong the issue of universal sovriegnty would never be settled and#2. god believed job was faithful enough to endure , but god NEVER tries anyone with evil and if someone tells you he does they are misinformed!

"Let us consider an illustration. Imagine that a teacher is telling his students how to solve a difficult problem. A clever but rebellious student claims that the teacher’s way of solving the problem is wrong. Implying that the teacher is not capable, this rebel insists that he knows a much better way to solve the problem. Some students think that he is right, and they also become rebellious. What should the teacher do? If he throws the rebels out of the class, what will be the effect on the other students? Will they not believe that their fellow student and those who joined him are right? All the other students in the class might lose respect for the teacher, thinking that he is afraid of being proved wrong. But suppose that the teacher allows the rebel to show the class how he would solve the problem.

Jehovah has done something similar to what the teacher does. Remember that the rebels in Eden were not the only ones involved. Millions of angels were watching. (Job 38:7; Daniel 7:10) How Jehovah handled the rebellion would greatly affect all those angels and eventually all intelligent creation. So, what has Jehovah done? He has allowed Satan to show how he would rule mankind. God has also allowed humans to govern themselves under Satan’s guidance."

Something simular happend with Job. But here Satan charged that Job was only serving Jehovah because everything was going his way, that Job had everything. Satan said if you let me take everything he has, he will denounce you. Job stayed faithfull proving Satan the liar that he is.

Jehovah never does bad, Satan does.

It's kind of a combo of Samuelb and Maewest. God knows the end from the beginning and needs to prove nothing.

Job after all the talk took his position in the ashes. That is what is left over from a burnt offering and what will be left of the wicked. In that position, Job was given a revelation through time down to the day that you and I are living in.

His sufferings give those who have the eyes of faith an eternal view and sustained hope of a certain redemption. It is also a humbling experience to open the Book of Job; when one realizes that even the great men of God are not made perfect without us.

First, testing people is not to prove to GOD what we will do. God knew what Job would do from the beginning of time. He allowed satan to go to a certain point to show satan that there were people that would serve GOD regardless of what happened to them...and God allowed it for you and for me...and for all those that would be able to read about JOB to know that not all bad things happen because they have sinned.

I think God doesnt need to prove anyone's belief.... neither was Job. Job had so many sufferings but those sufferings was not came from God... but it was brought by the devil... it was the devil provoked Job to prove how God is Almighty... and how God loved mankind..

Take note: God doesn't need to prove anything. The Book of Job is for humans to reflect upon....not to prove anything.

Who knows? Lack of anything better to do at the time? Pro'lly not...

I have all intention of asking that very question when I get there, though...

Makes for a really good example of withstanding Satan's attempts to thwart our faith, so I'm appreciative, at least.

This may be an explanation for why Job suffered so, and how he came through it all. It does not necessarily tell us about G-d's motives, but it does give us an insight into Job's thinking and feeling.
