I was told by a very believable person that the statistics for them went up after they took God out of schools.
Does anyone have any kind of website that has the statistics for this?

I have statistics, but you won't like them.

Turns out the US has a much higher rate of all of those compared to more secular states, i.e. the countries of Europe.

Why? Some conjectures (these are not necessarily true, but they do make the most sense given the data):

Suicide: Is much higher in the US than in more secular nations. One reason may be due to the abnormally high amount of homosexual teens who commit suicide in the US. Why? Because homosexuality is seen as an abomination.

Abortion: Is much higher in the US than in other secular nations. Why? Because the US doesn't teach proper birth control techniques. People will have sex, whether god likes it or not. In order to lower abortion rates, it is absolutely necessary to teach good birth control practices other than abstinence, which has been shown not to work.

Depression: This one's much more abstract. I also don't think it's necessarily tied to religion, though arbitrary guilt does play a huge role in depression.

Read the essay below as a starting point and go from there. Just don't rely on anecdotal evidence. There are several studies on this subject out there. I just threw out the first one I thought of.

PS - To reiterate a most excellent point above - Correlation does not necessarily mean causation. Sorry I forgot to lead off with that most brilliant point.

In general, higher rates of belief in and worship of a creator correlate with higher rates of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy, and abortion in the prosperous democracies (Figures 1-9). The most theistic prosperous democracy, the U.S., is exceptional, but not in the manner Franklin predicted. The United States is almost always the most dysfunctional of the developed democracies, sometimes spectacularly so, and almost always scores poorly. The view of the U.S. as a “shining city on the hill” to the rest of the world is falsified when it comes to basic measures of societal health. [ref]
The prevailing view is that religion is harmless even if it is delusional. That turns out not to be the case. America is the most religious country of those studied in the developed world. America also has the biggest problems in terms of things like homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy, and abortion.

maybe that's why there are lesser people in prisons now. sorry i just pulled that out of thin air.

I'll wait for developments.

if you want better opinions, dont ask people who might have a little inclination to exaggerate whether they're against it or not.

take note: believable is not the same as reliable.

...You might try www.wallbuilders.com This site contains David Barton's historical research of the founders of our nation, and their spiritual beliefs -(which certainly would greatly annoy revisionist historians and groups who seek to remove God from public life and confine religious expression to the inside of cathedral walls.)
...I have some of Mr. Barton's tapes, and he mentions those very statistics in at least one of them.
