Hmm...breaking up you mean?
Let see...this one really tough (for some people) to decide, you know. Well, as for me...it is truly hard actually. You often will be in dilemma whether or not to let go the person that you love the most. No kidding.
But letting your loved one go and forgetting about him or her does not mean you do not have anymore love towards them. In fact, in certain circumstance, you may have to do so because of your love toward him or her. Meaning that you do so not for your own benefit or sake but in fact for both of you (which I do hope so). In order to do so, however, you need to explain this properly to him or her. Transparency is everything in order for you to do this breaking-up matter, my friend. And if he or she failed to understand the situation, then you can do nothing. Let him or her decide for himself or herself. As the saying goes, time heals everything though in some circumstance, it may otherwise.
Therefore, my friend, I think the essence of your act doing this breaking-up matter must be honesty and what I called as 'transprancy' i.e. you have to explain and expose everything to justify anything that you think necessary.

you will never forget. you can attempt to move on, but if you truly loved this person, you will never forget. future contenders will be compared to the "love of your life". you will second guess yourself wondering if the right decision was made. all i can tell you is that everyday it does get a little bit easier. instead of thinking about this person 18 hours a day, it will go to when things are quiet and you have some downtime, to a couple of days a week, to a couple of times a month, then finally to when you are looking back on your life. everyone comes into and out of your life for a reason. eventually, time will be on your side and you will learn to live without that person

Sorry, but you'll never forget. It'll get easier to live with heartbreak with time. If you truly love someone you always will. There are things that you can do to make it easier, though. Go out with friends, be around family more often, get involved with church, find activites that you like to do and stay occupied. The worst thing that you can do, though, is try to "replace" that person. Your heart will only ache more. Give your pain to God and trust that he knows what is best for you.

You won't forget but can make your life easier by ignoring and thinking about other good things in life. With time, you will only have a smile on your face whenever you think of her.

Letting go takes time, we can't help it. I don't know that you will ever forget though.

I occasionally still have sad memories of people from twenty or more years ago.

But the pain of both does fade over time.

Take care,

By diving into a project and being so busy you have no time to think, and so tired at the end of the day that you fall asleep immediately in bed.

You will eventually let go. It will take time, no one can tell you how long, or when, but in time. However, you can officially never let go. You will gradually be able to relieve your pain. However you'll never FULLY let go.

Get angry. It's easier to hate someone than to love them and not be able to have them.
