i'm an EXPERT :) haha...
i've raised 3 teens... step-children that i've raised as my own SO, i do have a LOT of experience with discipline!
the kids all took driver's education at 15.
the kids were all given cars that had their name AND my husband's name on the title at 16... i insisted that their father's name be on the title so we had the RIGHT to take the car from them when necessary. did you know your child can have YOU charged with THEFT if you take their car and your name isn't on the title? just a word of caution! ANYHOW, we have used their cars as a punishment. we have taken away the car... we have made them pay their own car insurance (when grades aren't at our expectations)...
a car is a good tool... even if they don't have their "own" you could suspend the use of yours! GOOD LUCK:)

Bounce back the "no's." For example: everything you ask her to do or not do that she says "no," or by her behaviour, says "no," then when she asks you for something, anything, the answer is "no." You must let her/him know that this is what you're doing. You can even threaten a "no," and it sometimes changes their attitude. Like say, "Okay, I owe you a "no," and I'll save it for something equal to how much I want you to do (or not do) such and such." Works in my household.

hey,i can understand your suffering,i raised 3 teeagers,i tried to be their friend at an earlier age, discussed with them about almost everything, but still they need their own space.which is somehow a right they've got to have sometimes..you can earn their trust as much as you can,try to hold yourself from getting angry for every reason..when they behave good try to appreciate that psycologically/ financially(depends on their needs and interests)..wish you all the best

communication is a good relationship among individuals. you better talk to the 16 year old child. they were just in the adolescence stage and they were just turning into adulthood. their mind is not mature enough to understand certain things. you can guide him without taking away the things that made him or her happy. he or she will just mad at you if you take them away. you just make the situation worst...
thanks.....

It has to start at age ONE. If you have neglected to get a firm and effective system in place until now, it is too late.

Never too old for a good spanking, or "whoopin" as the other great answerer termed it.

You don't. You let them be unless they're doing drugs or sleeping around or not doing well in school. In that case, you should be seeking professional help... maybe house arrest.
If they're talking back to you or something, well... teenagers just get bitchy, so don't worry about it.
