It is neither proper nor moral. It has been forbidden by the Bible, (Matthew 15:23) If go overseas and across the land and convert the poor and ignorant you make them 'child twice' says Jesus. But still the reality is something not desirable at all. Some have justified that it has been the practice which may not be proper but effective way of increasing ones number. In a world of faith, what does one gain by branding some one as Christian or Muslim? As rightly pointed out by 'libido' it leads to socio-psychological problem and because of that lot are coming back to the Hindu fold and many more might follow suit.

If you're referring to American Indians, there is no indication that they were either poor or illiterate. They had been operating as various societies for thousands of years before the "white man" settled in North America.

Further, as Christians, the first settlers would have offered whatever help they could, whenever a situation presented itself. That's what we do.

If, in aiding others, we have an opportunity to talk about Jesus, again, we are bound by our faith to do so.

If these endeavors are combined, all the better. Current needs are met by Christians, future needs are met by Christ.

Max...You do know that not all Indians are poor, need medicine and are illiterate, right?
The original Native Americans were amazed at the things white man had, like ships, guns, horses and of course beer...that is what enticed the red man to convert to Christianity...or was it the fear of death by white man?
HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Proper no, effective yes. They have been doing that since the middle ages, the same techniques were used to lure the poor childeren from Viking settlements. Its certianly a better tactic than the Spanish Inquisition, but then again "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!!"

I am a buddhist. The christians used these stratagies in many countries.Am I angry?NO!Instead I would like to say sadhu 3x to them for doing a very good job.Why blame the hard working christians for a job well done?People of other religions should learn from the sucess of the christian.Don't blame others for their hardwork and sucess if you are lazy and complacent. So a word of advise to other religion ;work harder to catch with the christian.

As for me ....ultimately it is only a number game!It doen't bother me if the whole world gets converted to christianity, islam, hindu, atheist, etc.I investigated and find that buddha's teaching is good for me ,period!

is it proper to lure little kids into vans with candy? religious beliefs should change based on motives from the heart Jesus told a young man to sell all of his possessions if he wanted to follow him. so forcing someone to convert to Christianity just so they can buy food or clear up infection is wrong who ever is doing this need to decide if they want to minister or be a philanthropist

Unfortunately this is what is happening in the tribals of India.

They are not hindus even, they are simple people and have their own beautiful culture.

Missionaries lure them into the net of conversion by giving them money, clothing and food

Fault lies with the government of India too who does not care for them or conversions

North-eastern states have been converted by 90% and christians are demading separate country for them there...there is a lot of terrorism in the name of christianity

A real christian is the one who help people in needs ,by feeding hungry people ,by healing ill people ,by giving money to the poor ,is what every christian should do ( if it is a real christian) . So christians who do that ,are just doing their duty ,they are fullfilling the word of Jesus . Jesus also feeds hungry people ,heal ill people, now shal we accuse Jesus that bribe them into belief ??
U should ask instead ur own religious leaders and governament what they do ,why they dont care abt their own people ,why they dont feed them and give them medicines , and not accuse somebody who realy cares about those poor people .

Luring by definition is to Tempt, which is a negative. Bringing Christianity to anyone by introducing them to the religion is never a bad thing in itself. However, to offer help through material or non material things with the intention of drawing the non believer to believe is, in my opinion, totally wrong. However, not to say that the Church hasn't done it before. The ultimate question is, "Is the preacher's heart pure and sincere?" If they are meant to be converted, then God will lead the way.

though i am an atheist, i condemn such acts.after all religion is opium as told by Karl Marx. it is the strategies of some opium sellers to market their product. religious conversion among tribals is leading to severe psychological problems and conflicts. in a family if one member converts to Christianity and the others remain as Hindus, it creates lot of socio-psycho problems .
