Well you're supposed to be celebrating the past year and kind of saying goodbye to it as you start a new fresh year, where a lot of people make a new years resolution to change old negative behaviors, or what ever wasnt working in the past and make it better this year.
The part I never understood is why people want to get sh** faced and start their new year off w/ a hang over???

It's remembering the last year and celebrating the good times, and looking forward to the next while celebrating the good times it will contain. Also, it seems like a good idea to start an entire year with a grand ole party.

Me personally not celebrate new year as may other people. Usually I used that night to retrospect my self. What have I done for last 12 moths. Do I have a progress to be the better person? in my family, in realationship with friends, in my job, including in my character and personality.
When I found weakness, tryin` to fix it up, just wanna be a better person.

Different reasons one is that the earth has made yet another lap around the sun and we tend to celebrate accomplishments or maybe simply surviving that lap. Who knows? Its always nice to find a reason to celebrate.
