Think of the attribute of jealousy in humans. Isn't it a sure sign of immaturity, lack of understanding, and lack of wisdom? Basically, isn't it a sign of a child rather than an adult?
So why would we think that the God of the Bible would be a Jealous God? Shouldn't me be light-years beyond that?

Yeah, there is a scripture that says something like "I am a jealous God" (not exact quote) and I have no idea what exactly it was referring to, but it was not our supreme being saying he was jealous. Geez Louise! Whomever wrote that surely wasn't quoting God. God is all love and I would imagine in a constant state of bliss. Can you really imagine him being angry or jealous. I don't care what Sunday School teaches, that's just silly!

GOD OUR LORD IS THE CREATOR OF WISDOM
AND NEEDS NOT TO BE A CLEVER GOD.
EVIL SENSES AND EVIL
Devil is the one who prepares evil sense for others with one’s cleverness in innocently uttered words and derives negative senses even from the most positive and perfect holy sayings. And a God’s servant always remains positive and positivity of the servant is the innocence of heart. And in the gardens of paradise only innocents will enter and the holy words tell us that clever who are negative-hearted will be the dust of the feet of the innocents on the Day of Judgment.
God is the Creator of every need but God is free from every need. God is the All Alone and God is the Absolute Holy. Nothing of the material or immaterial creatures can oppose God, as an equivalent to God. God is One and Alone since inception and God will remain One and Alone forever. Death is for the creatures____ not for God. God is the Creator of life and death, the both. God is the creator of the knowledge, the Mercifulness, the Almightiness, the Bounty & the Benevolence and the likewise Attributes as well. No description___ or narration____ or definition___ or praise___ can encompass God. God is the Supernatural and Super-physical. God is not encompass-able by the human intellect. Intellect can simply believe in God through the apparent signs.

God did say in the old testament that He was a jealous God. He found the people to be worshipping other Gods, Idols, and such the same. He said he was a jealous God because he didn't want them to put others before him. He wanted and wants an intimate relationship with each of us, by choice. We follow God because we choose to, not because we have to.
We should be beyond immaturity in understanding. But remember we aren't all there yet. For many, their understanding is conditioned by rulers, dictators, and others who want to be treated as a god. Maturity doesn't just happen. It is a learned trait that can sometimes take years, lifetimes to complete.

I believe that mankind has placed human attributes onto GOD. The god of the bible is described not only as a jealous god, but a wrathful one as well. A punishing god, a god that is racist. ONLY the Jews-no offense to Jewish folk-are the chosen ones, everyone else (gentiles) are less worthy? Interesting, considering the books of the bible were written by Jewish (Hebrew men). In the bible god also chooses sides in regards to his creations warring and killing each other. Sorry, but I do not subscribe to the such.

you've made the blunders of equating 2 distinct words. The Exodus be conscious for jealous is ???? qanna?' kan-naw' (a Hebrew be conscious) The Corinthians be conscious is ?????? ze?loo? dzay-lo'-o (a Greek be conscious) the first which ability is jealousy. the 2d is envy. you ought to surely examine truly of taking the recognize atheist web pages. Equating excellent meanings for words of two distinct languages is in various of circumstances a mistake. till you're an atheist it form of feels. BTW: Your Bible version seems to suck.

Jealousy is not a sign of immaturity- how you express that jealousy however, can be.
If you were married, committed your life and sacrificed your desires for your wife, loved her with every part of your being and gave up a part of yourself for her, then she wanted to spend her time and attentions on antoher man- would you not be jealous? would you not be angered and feel betrayed because of how calously she treated your faithfulness and your love? Would you not do whatever you could to show her, make her realize how much you loved her and what you had given for her?
- I am not talking about crazy ex boyfriend, stalker, put a gun to her head jealousy- this is the expression that is immature- I am talking about faithfulness, loyalty, righteousness and honesty.
This is what God feels for us, He created us to love Him and to be loved by Him, He chose us to be His own and He has given a part of Himself for us, He has loved us with a strong, faithful, just and righteous love, when we want to take some of that only when it suits us, but to dabble in things that would hurt our relationship and fellowship with God, put other things above Him, He is jealous and has right to be- He is just , though, He will stand faithfully and wait for us to come to love Him and be faithful to Him, He will not force us, but we cannot receive the blessing of the bride if we are not faithful and true to our husband.
Does this make more sense??
PS: regarding another answer stating that jealousy is one of the seven sins- jealousy and covetousness are two different things, it is not a sin to be jealous in the sense explained above but to be jealous and covet what is not yours, what is not earned or meritted by you, to have envy with a bad heart attitude towards anothers blessing is a sin. We often use one word that can have a broad meaning and cover everything with it causing confusion, but if we break it down and look at the situation and the heart attitude (which is what is most important to God) then we can have understanding- it takes on a whole new meaning.
Do you love a hamburger like oyu love your wife?? I hope not - same word- different attitude, different meaning- the same with the word jealousy- look at the root- the heart of the matter.

I've asked that a while ago, and some of the answers was God is beyond that, and he is infalliable. And yet jealousy is regarded as one of the 7 sins for us. Talk about having double standards

Some religions invent God as per their own prejudices. They impose their own dogmas on god and expect him to follow them !
God is beyond all human imperfections...it is the fault of certain religions to depict god imperfectly, not God's fault

Well, among other things - the book says He is ...
In fact, if I remember correctly (and it's been a long time since I've read it) HE says He is - the first commandment, right?
