I would like to know if anyone out there has had any success with Wellbutrin XL, or Wellbutrin SR, and what were the side effects?

I was on edge at all time and really didn't help w/depression. It made me shakey and like I was on a caffeine rush at all times.
Everyone is different though.
Good luck.

I take wellbutrin and at first the side effects were weird... I experienced just an overall weird feeling, nausea and a decreased appetite.
I eventually felt better and my appetite increased but I now have trouble fall asleep (somewhat insomnia)

But I think the benefits definately outweigh the negatives. I took it for clinical depression and it definately helped improve my overall quality of life.

But w/ any anti-depressant it really depends on what works for the individual so your experience w/ it could be better or worse.. Its just a trial and error thing, so give it a try if your doctor recommends it and if it doesn't work then try the next best thing- you'll find what works.

Wellbutrin (buproprion hydrochloride) is a chemical derivative of diethylpropion, which is a stimulant used in appetite surpression.

The side effects differ for everyone, but if you don't respond well to stimulants; you may experience, increased restlessness, loss of aptetite, anxiety, nausia, insomnia, tremors and weight loss. All psychotropic drugs produce side effects, however, they should be minimized through a managed dosage schedule, where your doctor monitors how you respond to different dosage increases over a period of time. This will give you the best opportunity to adjust to the medication without experiencing harsh side effects. (High doses of Wellbutrin were reported to cause seizures in clinical trials. Therefore, it's important that you discuss any history of any seizure disorder with your Dr. before taking it.)

Additionally, Wellbutrin is a Multiple Reuptake Inhibitor (MRI), which describes how it works in treating depression. Wellbutrin concentrates on modulating two neurotransmitters, which are norepinephrine and dopamine.

Dopamine is central to your brains reward system, where it is activated when an unexpected reward is present, providing a somewhat euphoric sensation (e.g. eating chocolate). Your brain then adapts to these sensations and develops behaviors designed to repeat these unexpected rewards.

Neuropinephrine plays a part in effecting your attention and impulsivity control. It also works with adrenaline to activate your ssympathetic nervous system in providing muscle readiness, raising your heart rate and releasing energy from fat.

Wellbutrin is designed to prevent your brain from recycling these two neurotransmitters in to their storage bins in your brain, for later use. Keeping them around longer should increase your energy levels and abilities to experience pleasure, thus dissipating the depression.

Depending on certain neurological disorders or histories of substance abuse, Wellbutring may either be the ONLY antidepressant for you or something to stear clear of. I'm scheduled to start taking it in 2 weeks and my Dr has discussed how successful it's been for her in treating the depression aspect of many patients with mood disorders.

I hope this helps and everything works out.

Well it makes you want to have sex often, but for women it seems that the orgasm is harder to achieve.I got really bad headaches, sleeplessness. The side effects started to out weigh the positives. (the sex thing was to much to ask, and it destroyed my boyfriends ego for a while)

If you are taking it for depression, it works good, it you are taking it to quit smoking I would try the patch, but you really need to have the urge to quit.
