Hey Now...
I added both Chardonnays & Rieslings...
Enjoy
CHARDONNAYS
1) Penfold's Koonunga Hill Chardonnay ($8)
A robust flavored white wine, with hints of melon and mineral. This Australian Chardonnay is a terrific value for those looking for a dry white wine to pair with a white meat dinner or seafood appetizer. Generally sells for around $8.
2) Chateau St. Michelle Chardonnay ($12)
Touted as a "Smart Buy" by the Wine Spectator and as a "Best Buy" by the Wine Enthusiast, this exceptional Washington grown Chardonnay is a prime example of what a true Chardonnay should strive to taste like. Average retail price is about $12.
3) 2002 Benziger Carneros Chardonnay ($10)
A Chardonnay that bursts with pear, apple and even pineapple flavors. The winemaker, Mr. Nolan, recommends pairing this wine with traditional favorites like Corn Chowder or Macaroni and Cheese, in addition to fresh seafood dishes.
4) Heron Hill Chardonnay Reserve ($15)
This Chardonnay's claim to fame is that it appeals to people that are not typically fans of Chardonnays. It has a fresh fruit taste with a hint of oakiness on the finish.
5) Ravenswood Vintner's Blend Chardonnay ($10)
This California Chardonnay offers a touch of vanilla flavor to its peach and apricot tones. It is a very drinkable wine that is priced well - typically around $10 a bottle.
6) Kendall Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay ($11)
This California Chardonnay has been the #1 Selling Chardonnay nationwide for 14 years running. It is no wonder that its popularity continues, one sip and you will experience tropical fruit flavors with just a touch of butterscotch on the outset. For only $11 a bottle, this remains a very affordable wine.
7) Columbia Crest Chardonnay ($11)
Creamy pastas, seafoods and light appetizers pair perfectly with this Chardonnay from Washington. It is priced at $11 a bottle, and well worth every penny.
8) Dry Creek Vineyard Chardonnay ($15)
This California Chardonnay promotes distinct floral flavors combined with toasty fruit undertones. The winemaster recommends pairing this wine with creamy chicken dishes. It is a distinguished Chardonnay that generally retails for $15 a bottle.
9) Bouchard Pere & Fils Chardonnay ($14)
This Chardonnay hails from the vineyards of France. It is a traditionally flavored delight that is sure to pair well with a variety of white meat entrees. Generally retails for $14 a bottle.
10) Mirassou Chardonnay ($14)
This gold medal winning Chardonnay, pairs nicely with poultry dishes and a variety of cheeses. The fresh fruit flavors meet you at the first sip. This wine retails for $14 a bottle.
RIESLINGS
1) V. Sattui's 2003 Dry Johannisberg Riesling ($16)
A personal favorite, this particular California Riesling, is the recipient of the California State Fair's "Double Gold Medal" and "Best of Class" honors. This Riesling would be a terrific compliment to a holiday meal or enjoyed with a simple cheese and cracker medley. An exceptionally priced Riesling ($16) that is available exclusively through the winery, via easy online or phone ordering options.
2) Pikes Clare Valley Riesling ($18)
An Australian Riesling that alludes to the Old World Riesling styles. This delightful wine is well balanced with fresh citrus fruit flavors and a crisp finish. Should pair well with seafood and pastas. General retail price is $18 a bottle.
3) Chateau St. Jean 2003 Sonoma County Johannisberg Riesling ($15)
This Riesling is full of floral mixed with melon and apricot flavors. A straightforward Riesling that will likely satisfy both dry and sweet Riesling fans alike. Retail $15.
4) Chateau St. Michelle Eroica Riesling 2003 (Washington) $25
Chateau St. Michelle has created a very classy Riesling, perfectly balanced with very bold fruit-forward flavor. This Washington Riesling is full of citrus and pear flavors, yet quite reminiscent of the Old World German Rieslings, providing a dry, minerally wine with a stout acidic finish. As a fun aside, Chateau St. Michelle named this Riesling, Eroica, after Beethoven’s Third Symphony.
5) Trimbach Riesling ($20)
A French Riesling that is no more traditional than flavorful, with fruit undertones and a slightly acidic finish. This wine retails at around $20 a bottle.
6) Annie's Lane 2003 Riesling (Australia) $12
Annie's Lane 2003 Riesling is an outstanding value from the heart of Australia. Lots of citrus, tangerine, lemons and limes surround your glass, making this wine a perfect pair for some fresh shrimp hot off of the grill.
7) Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Drachenstein "Dragonstone" Riesling 2003 (Germany) $15
The Leitz Drachenstein Riesling is thought my many to be one of the world's best Riesling buys. Give this grapefruit and honey laden wine a try, you won't be disappointed. Great with or without food, easy drinking, smooth and balanced to perfection.
8) Rosemount Estate Riesling 2003 (Australia) $15
A fresh, lively Riesling from Australia, Rosemount Estates 2003 Riesling is the essence of citrus from aroma to flavor, with a well-balanced finish. This Riesling lies on the drier side and would hold up well to an assortment of seafood dishes.
9) Schmitt-Sohne Blue Riesling Auslese (Germany) $15
A classic German Riesling with subtle sweetness accented by flavors of apricot and honey. This particular wine would work well with a variety of desserts.
10) Fritz Haag Estate Riesling 2003 (Germany) $15
Fritz Haag is known for producing outstanding and consistent Rieslings. The 2003 vintage is no exception. A single sip packs a citrus punch that carries on and on. The slate-like mineral tones come through loud and clear with a medium-dry finish.
Smiles

My grandfather visited Germany over 25 yrs ago and he brought back a Gewurztraminer .Now I was only 15 but I did try it along with the rest of the family and at that point I became a lover of wine. And when I got old enough to but it myself I could not find any. So Chardonnay (Hess) it was (for years), along with fine liquors.....you know Bartles and James, and Carlos Rossi...anyway one day while shopping in Bristol Farms I found several . And Fetzer BY far is one of the best. For about $9. You just have to try it if you haven't already.....

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. Wine snobs may knock the Grigio, but it's a lovely wine and not too pricey. One of my favorite "Sunday evening" wines.
