That expressing ones beliefs as a non believer is open minded... expressing ones beliefs as a believer is pushing your agenda down everyone's throat.
Also that we are all closed minded gullible brainwashed morons...I lived as an athiest for 28 years and I have never accepted more new ideas than since I believed.
BTW sister...just emailed you about the question on the tribes of Isreal...get back when u have time, precious child of Isreal

There are a lot of Atheists that think you are the ones with the misconceptions, so what difference does it make? Hopefully your faith is strong enough to not let any of them bother you. They do go to bed at night without worrying about the Theists out there, and sleep peacefully.
Hi Penguin, nice to see you!

I think your example is a "straw man", and I expect that many answers here will be more straw man examples.
Of course we can all perceive/conceive of something beyond ourselves. But our ability to conceive of something does not make that something true.
All humans normally require some evidence to believe in something. If I told you there was a gold statue of the Flying Spaghetti Monster on Pluto would you believe me? No, you immediately dismiss it because there is no evidence for it.
Atheists claim there is no evidence for your God. The fact that many people "feel" that there is a God is not evidence, because feelings are not reliable indicators of truth, and people can be indoctrinated to interpret their feelings in a biased way. The fact that there is a book that claims to be the word of God is not evidence. The fact that there are many people who have faith is not evidence, because people are a product of their culture, and culture is self-propagating.
Now, with all of that said, I want to emphasize that my biggest problem with religion is not when believers have faith despite the absence of evidence. It is when they reject contrary evidence in order to preserve misplaced faith. If you are a Christian who is wise enough to know that Genesis is clearly just allegory, and is not evidence against the Theory of Evolution, then you're quite possibly someone I could respect. But far too many Christians today are not wise enough to adapt their faith to modern knowledge, and then want to impose their delusion on others. That has to be resisted.

i think of there are 2 misconceptions: That religios are dumb and that they hate existence. Religios are continually talking related to the "afterlife", I.E. loss of life. and that they are continually discounting hassle-free evidence. Thinkers locate that fodder for insult. My best venture with religios is they decrease value certainty and that they decrease value existence. (on the instant is all we've been given. get exhilaration from it. adventure it now.) Please. The thousand-limitless-unknowable-billions of years interior the afterlife would be there or they won't. So be it. wait and notice. I reckon so.

Atheists are always saying that people of faith are brainwashed, uneducated, mindless followers of fairytales, and that we can't "think outside the box". They look down their noses at us because they feel they are academically superior to us simply because we choose to believe in a Higher Power other than ourselves. It seems to me that they are the ones who can't seem to think outside the box,but I try not to judge them too harshly. After all, they don't realize that they are being used as pawns in a spiritual fight between good and evil. No, I'm not saying they are evil. What I'm saying is that they are unknowingly doing exactly what satan wants them to do by causing dissention and spreading false logic. They have chosen to not believe in God,and that is their decision to make, but to be condescending to those who believe in God shows just how egotistical and self-righteous they are. After all, they can' prove or even show the slightest evidence that God does not exist. Believers can't prove God exists, either, but we do have evidence of God. Atheists simply choose to overlook that evidence, proving that they are the ones who are purposely looking for reasons not to believe, therefore closing their minds, and staying inside "the box" instead of going outside the box and their comfort zone.
Another misconception is when they say discussion about God is meaningless because He can't be sensed by the 5 senses. Logical positivism is based upon the verification principle ,which states that for a statement to be meaningful ,it has to be either true by definition or verifiable by one or more of the 5 senses. This means that all discussion about God should be considered meaningless. However, the verification principle itself fails its own test, since it cannot be verified by any of the 5 senses. It is a self-refuting principle, and, therefore, logically flawed.

He's been trying to find a Jewish girl - and now I wonder if this started when his 'open-mindedness' did, LMAO!!

Theists and Non-theists are all alike. They have misconceptions and stereotypes of other people. Theists think that non-theists are bad, ammoral, immoral, purposeless, uncaring and small minded. Non-theists think that theists are fools, brainwashed, suckers, and sheep.
Having said that - I would say that the biggest misconception that I have ever had about theists is that they believe in magic and ghosts and demons and witches.

well, whatever you imagine you're perceiving "beyond yourself" is beyond you. when religious people assert they know what God thinks, likes and dislikes, wants and doesn't want, will do or won't do all i can think is that these folks are pretty damn silly and full of themselves.
and i'm not misconceiving anything about such religious folks. you read post after post of "God doesn't want you to do this" and "God says this" and "this horrible stuff will happen to you if you don't believe this or that". what a bunch of bull feces.
