First of all, I'm sorry about your loss of Squirty. That is a cute name!
Second, the way I look at cats is that I will most likely out live them, so I know that they will pass on someday and I don't let it get to me to that extent. I have lost 6 cats and 1 dog in my lifetime so far, but I get another one soon after to replace the companionship I enjoyed and remember the good times. It keeps my mindset on the new pet and how happy it makes me.
You don't have to forget your other pet, but at the same time, you shouldn't dwell on it constantly to the point of depression if that may be. It isn't healthy for you physically and emotionally.
Go get another cat to get your mind off of Squirty. I believe you miss the companionship and a new pet can help fill the void that Squirty is no longer there for.
Mabe you could volunteer at your local animal shelter? You have the love to give the animals, so why not let one be your new friend. Just remember, their lifespan is shorter than ours, so take that in to consideration for the future.

I am sorry about your loss. I lost my darling cat of 16 years about a year and a half ago. It is hard, trust me I know. Do not think about your cat being in pain because now the pain is gone. Remember how sweet he/she was and know that, if you believe in God, anything that you love, whether human or animal, you will see again in heaven. My other cat is 16 and I am preparing forhis death. Once he dies I have decided that I am going to go to an animal shelter and adopt a cat that needs a home. I am not going to pick the cutest cat, but the one that needs help the most, the one that will be put to sleep the soonest because of no one giving him a home in time. I know that will gradually help me because I am saving the life of a cat and gaining the company of a pet who will add comfort to my saddness. Also, if, in the future, you have a cat that has kittens, it may be a good idea to keep one of your cat's kittens so that, when your cat passes away, you have another cat that you not only love, but that is a part of your old cat. This is what I did and I found it helped in many ways. I wish you all the best.

You have to remind yourself of the good times you had with your cat and remember that he or she was loved and is now suffering no more. I lost my beloved 16 year old Bobby in July of this year and I still think of him and even cry sometimes but I know he's not suffering no more and one day I will see him again. Just remember the good times and memories and time will help ease the pain. Sorry for your loss.

When my kitten died it was hard for me to get over, a few month later I got three kittens, and it helped me feel better, I know they can never take the place of the kitten that died[Mitzi], but it was nice to have a cat to love again. You should get another cat, it will help you feel better.

Continue crying. All life is precious, and these things only get better with time.
It might help to know that without death there would be no life. Could you imagine a world without children?
Death is not a thing to be appreciated. But give it a mutual respect.
