I think you should.
They are the nation's largest gun lobby in Washington.
The NRA defends the 2nd Ammendment, and is a good portal for resources, training, safety and responsible gun ownership. I know a lot of people think of the stereotype that only dirty, unshaven ex-vets are members, but quite the opposite is true.
There are millions of Americans who belong to the NRA that include families, executives, hunters, sportsmen, marksmen (non violent accuracy shooting), etc. who believe that self defense can be entrusted by the individual instead of waiting 10 minutes for the police to show up to stabilize the situation of, say, a violent intruder.
Membership starts at $35.00 a year, and includes a publication of your choice. You also get discounts at hotels, for car rentals and other services you probably use just for showing your membership card.
Criminals hate legal gun owners - because they don't have the ability to know who is, and who isn't armed. I think that is a right that is worth defending. Statistics show that over a million violent crimes every year are thwarted because the intruder saw or heard a gun being cocked in the house.
If you want more pro and con information, check out the following site below. I believe it is an excellent source of valuable information, and as far as I know, is the most extensive information on the web regarding gun statistics.
So look for yourself and make an informed decision, either way.
I'm an Endowment Life Member of the NRA and proud of it.

If you believe that people kill people, and they should be put away when they do, not blame the guns and give gun-crime committing criminals light sentences so they can run loose and kill more people in a few years. If you believe that people have a right to use a firearm in self defense, not to save your car or TV set from being stolen but to protect yourself and your loved ones (the cops can't sit on your doorstep or always be there in 15 minutes or less, by which time you can be dead). If you believe that teaching people safe and responsible handling of weapons is important, instead of their wanting to imitate the trash Hollywood promotes of gun violence or gun toting lunatics. If you understand that all the enemies of the USA who want to suppress, overun, or intimidate us want our citizens to be unarmed and unfamiliar with firearms. If you understand the reason we were granted the right to bear arms is to protect our freedoms and that it isn't the only edited, abreviated sentence in the Bill of Rights. If you understand that criminals will use their illegal guns to rob and kill people when law abiding citizens are forced to surrender theirs, and it only leads to more home invasion while people are at home, more people being beaten, stagbbed or hacked to death because they can't deter or stop such attacks. (Read the real statistics of crime where guns are banned). If you know that the reason that Japan decided not to try an invasion of Hawaii is they knew statistically there was one gun for every two households and that the attrition rate would be too high. If you undertsand Washington DC has the most restrictive laws and the highest murder rate in the country. If you understand that a lot of people like Rosie O'Donnell or Congressman Maurice Hinchey who don't think you need a gun, have one for self protection. Then you should join the NRA. If youy think guns turn any human that holds one into a bloodthirsty demon, that convicted felons should get back the right to vote, that George Soros and the United Nations can govern our country better than we can, and that we can count on Russia or China for protection, then don't join the NRA.

no human being in Washington has extra effect and ultimately political ability than the NRA. this should be your first club. regrettably, the NRA has agreed to three political compromises contained in the previous and sensible will again. They too commonly take the area that gun rights are for both searching or self-protection and forget with regard to the needed political ability it supplies the human beings, then they make bargains with anti-gun politicians in accordance with this incorrect premise. I also belong to GOA, who're extra outspoken and obnoxious about the excuses we personal guns. They ultimately have a lot less effect politically, yet they push the acute.

I'll assume that you believe in gun ownership, or you wouldn't be asking the question. The NRA is an advocacy organization, so you would not join it to get benefits personally, but because you want to support their cause, which involves advocating against any restrictions on guns at all. If you believe that, and want to help get the word out about it, then you might want to join.

Depends. All these other good people have given you points of view that are basically their own beliefs, so what's one more?
The NRA is to damn paranoid. Nobody is looking to take their guns, or my guns for that matter. What is a criminal that has eliminated opposition & never been caught? The owner of several fully automatic weapons & quite possibly a card carrying supporter of the NRA. That is the real problem.
The NRA thinks in terms of someone breaking into your house to rob you, excuse me but a shotgun is the best for home invasion defense, your neighbor doesn't need tracer rounds coming through the walls of his house.
The NRA hasn't sponsered much of anything in MI. Ducks Unlimited, various whitetail clubs, etc. have done gun safety courses. The NRA just looks for more funding to lobby for no controls on weapons that nobody could consider hunting weapons. Why don't they just join the National Gaurd if they desire to play with greater fire power?
By protecting the rights of a collector we find ourselves in a position where we ourselves are instrumental in allowing terrorists to arm themselves in our country. Federal firearms licenses should be a little more difficult to get.
If they really want the common mans support the NRA needs to get back to teaching gun safety. While they are at it a sportsmans training course is sorely needed also. I live in a rural area, the coyotes love the aftermath of deer season. So many unsafe, unsportsmanlike hunters that have no clue how to trail a deer. Matter of fact, if the thing doesn't drop right in front of them, they don't go take a look to see if they hit it.
I've kicked hunters off my property because they park on the road & enter it. They wouldn't think of doing that to their neighbor, but it's OK here? I've also let people hunt when I ask them how they plan to track if they hit something. Best answer I got was a young guy who didn't say a word but pulled toilet paper and dyed peroxide out of his day pack. He hunted here for three years and filled his license every year.He only bowhunts now & has bought property of his own, but he's welcome back.
Most real hunters I know have switched to bow hunting. Just as lethal, but more of a challenge, and you better know how to track down a wounded animal. If the NRA starts cleaning up the mess they, in part, created by letting any idiot buy a gun, by instituting safety and skills training, I'll be more supportive of them.
Until then, my bow & black powder hunting are just fine. I only carry my .308 rifle to defend myself in rifle season when some idiot is firing rimfire cartridges all over my property & usually not seeing a thing.

The NRA is a group with a common interest. As with any such group, they provide lobbying for their interest, facilitate gun knowledge and safety, and support the right to keep and bear arms.
If you do not agree, don't join.
Same reason to joing AARP, NAACP, or others with an agenda and common interest

Yes the NRA protects the right of law abiding citizens to own guns. without them the ACLU and other groups would have taken them away from law abiding citizens, and only criminals who don't mind breaking the law would have them.
Not only that they teach gun and hunter safety courses, and have helped our military in times of war like World War 2, and with the help of people who appreciate responsible gun ownership may be called on to help our country, and others again.

Of course you should. It helps support an organization that fights for our right to bare arms. Canada has guns in almost every home, yet their murder rate is next to nothing. England has a ban on guns and yet their crime rate is skyrocketing. So, it seems to me, to be the lack of self-control of some Americans. We could put those thumb print scanners on each and every gun, but the criminals would just remove them or reprogram them. It would however, help with keeping young children from getting to them.
As for our rights to bare arms; If we do not defend our rights and freedoms, they will be slowly eroded away. Our forefathers fought and died for every single right and all freedoms we have. Even if we don’t agree with some of those rights, who am I to determine which rights are valid and to be honored for all of our citizens?
If guns are to blame for murders, then I wish to blame my pencil for spelling errors.
Just my opinion,
Yvette

what do you want to shoot ,if it is animals this was my answer on whether or not hunting was a good thing for the youth
not good ,
times have changed ,when i was young hunting was a manly thing.
when i was young,i was a trapper for skins my self once for a year on a Rocky mountain ridge, and hunted a lot for food.
I have also hunted in Africa ,but always because i was hungry
but in that time i learned, that animals alive are much more beautifull, and i learned to apreciate nature
we should be teaching the youth about conservation nature instead
they can still go out into the wilds, lots of fresh air ,but they can learn something instead ,about biology .the flora and fauna ,instead of learning how to stalk and kill.
so a camara is far better to shoot with than a gun,and nobody can get hurt, check how many people get wounded or killed by hunting accidents ,i once saw a guy shoot his own horse tied to a tree ,because he was convinced it was a deer.
the professional hunters that I have known have all turned to Nature conservation, because it is disapearing so fast.there just is´nt that much to hunt anymore ,and there are a heck of a lot more people around who would like to shoot something.

If you believe that Americans should have the right to own firearms, and you support the 2nd Amendment then I would say yes...
A citizen owns a firearm, a subject does not...Makes you wonder why the liberal/socialist in this country want you unarmed doesn't it...
