A magna-doodle. I love these because they can draw or scribble and there is absolutely no mess. They have them now in themes so you may be able to find her a Dora one. You can also consider a My First Leappad, at four she should have some interest in books. Then at Christmas you could follow up with another book or two.

I know that you said that she has all the Dora things but they did just come out with the Dora kitchen play set. My daughter is really into Dora and that is what i got her. small toys are a pain but the Dora kitchen is not small so i am sure her mother wouldn't mind it either. You could always take her to the store and make a shopping trip out of it then she can pick out her own toy and you know she will love it.

My son will be 4 in December. Some of the things I'm thinking of buying: LeapPad from Leap Frog, Little People, Easy Bake Oven (make sure you buy a lightbulb--doesn't come with one). If you decide to get an Easy Bake Oven, you might want to include some refrigerated cookie dough or "Baking with Mommy Cookbook: Recipes for Kid-Size Ovens" because no one wants to eat any of the little cake mixes that come with the oven. Also, 4 year olds love Play-doh.

Perhaps something more fun than money would be a gift card to a toy store. That way, you aren't under the pressure to find her something she'll love (especially if she's going through an 'I only want Dora stuff' phase), and she gets to pick out whatever she wants (for that price)!
Good luck!

My most memorable presents from relatives as a kid involved spending time with them. My grandma took me out to pick out my present and for lunch. That way, I got what I wanted, spent time with her, and got lunch all wrapped up in the bargain. She was always very upfront about how much money I had to spend, but I never minded that. It is also a nice present for her parents who probably wouldn't mind a break from their rambunctious little four year old for a couple of hours. Perhaps you could include Chuck E. Cheese in the bargain as part of the lunch.
That said, this christmas I am getting my nieces art supplies I have been buying at clearance prices all year. They love stamps and stickers and such. They are each getting a bucket filled with craft supplies that is decorated with their names on it. That way, they know where to put the stuff when they are done with it too!

Let me just say as a parent of a 5 year old and twin 2 year olds, dont buy toys!! I just spent 4 hours cleaning and sorting and getting rid of toys that my kids have. Clothes are good, books too. Ok if you must go with a play thing why not play dress up clothes fancy dresses and plastic shoes? My daughter loves that and atleast then it isnt something with a million tiny pieces that ends up in the floor the day after you buy it or one of those toys you "lose" the batteries for

I really don't think 4 years old is enough for either money or a gift certificate. Does she like crafts? There are lots of crafty things you can get. How about markers (washable kinds!!) and fuzzy pictures? A moving/talking stuffed animal? When my step-daughter was 4, she LOVED to play dress up...get her some fancy dresses, shoes, etc... There's a lot you can get and she'd love!

If you don't want to get her more toys to leave lying around, you could give her a gift certificate to Chuck E Cheese or some place similar. That way she can go have fun and there's do clean up to worry about :) My 4 year old loves it there.
