The room is large and has 9 windows and oak hardwood floors. The room has beautiful cherry wood trim that goes everywhere in the house. The house is approximately 80 years old. My furniture is ecru.

what are you waiting for to go with colors in the brown family??? It would look awesome with your ecru furniture and the cherry trim. If you have lots of windows, it's really easy to use dark colors. The fashion now is to use dark colors... as dark as you can without making the place feel like a tomb. Go for it! You can always repaint if you don't like it.
