If God created us and if everything he created is good, how can being different, being independent, being a free thinker, or even being an atheist be bad?

Christians will not care that your Mother was a wonderful and compassionate person. They will hold no respect for her because she didn't believe as they do.

If they believe even a tiny infant is a sinful creature how can you imagine they could see a person with a lifetime of good works behind them as any less sinful? They'll also see that any pleasure she took in being good was a sin. Any idea she might have had that people were inherently good is wrong and sinful in their eyes.
