I think humanity would be much lazier than it already is. Too many people expect to be given too much. I would re-phrase the question to ask "what if all the money given to churches/religions was spent on things that really made a difference (consider the extravagant spending of the middle ages especially).
I thing the old proverb about, "give a man a meal, and you have fed him for a day, teach the man to grow his own food, and you feed him for a lifetime" should be updated. "Give a man a meal, and he will expect you to give him another meal".
Plenty of people have a natural compassion and want to give to help the less fortunate, but sometimes that giving has the opposite affect. Like helping the butterfly out of its cocoon, by doing so, it will never reach its potential and never be able to fly.
If "giving the money to humanity" meant improving schools and helping to reduce the government burdens on families... I would be all for it, and it would definitely make a world of difference!

There would in turn be many fewer problems in the world. rationality would take presence over "faith" and more good would be done. also notice that many of humanities problems are caused by religion. the catholic church does not allow the use of condoms, in response, president bush stopped the shipping of condoms and other forms of aid to africa, where AIDS is ripping through the country. The clash between Islam, Christianity and the Jewish faith have all conflicted over thousands of years, causing millions of millions of deaths. Much of the money given to the church could be given to science, creating new treatments and vaccinnes. Religion is the only thing holding science back, but it cant hold out forever. I mean the curch admitted around ten years ago that the earth was round, do i really have to say anything else?

Yea, and we can ban 26% of the world's AID's hospitals that are run by the Catholics. Just give the money to humanity in the name of fair distribution.
Don't forget the thousands of free clinics, infant care centres and nursing homes in third world countries, operated by dedicated Christians. We can shut them down and just give the money to humanity.
Then there are famine relief organizations, most of them Christians of all sorts. We can have the Christians arrested so the humanity police can distribute food because its really cheaper that way.
But it will be impossible for any food to get there at all because everybody thought Elton John had the right idea.

What do you think churches do with the money donated to them? They help the poor.
What if everyone gave to the poor instead of buying designer clothes, jewlery, alcohol, video games and any other usless, vain material posessions? I think a lot more money is spent on sin than church.
Don't throw stones because you certainly haven't done all you can.

how would you give it to humanity? What organization. Many religions act just like many non-secular charities. So why not give to a religion, it will be more likely to be helping a cause you agree with. There are many charities out there that do not do a very good job of using their funds to actually help anyone but their board of directors. At least with giving to my church I agree with how it is used (yes, I have checked and the overhead compared to many charities is VERY low)

Religion is there FOR man. For man to learn of God and the way of salvation. It is God that gives man the ability, capability, etc. to work and earn his money. Many Church's have outlets for other humanity purposes as well...schools, hospitals, Christian and Catholic charities, feed the hungry, etc. etc.

It would have been wasted on stupid stuff like research and food, clothing and medicine instead of stored as precious gold, jewels and works of art in wonderful Churches and other houses of worship.
