Militant atheism is a major reason why both groups do not get along well: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.11/atheism_pr.html

Militant atheists try to use ridicule and insults to shame people of religions (especially Christians) into embarrassment. They hope to make religion seem like another form of superstition. Little do these kind of atheists seem to understand that most Christians have been taught to expect obnoxious treatment (Christ was ridiculed and insulted), and are much stronger than the atheists could ever imagine. Interesting how so many militant atheists are loath to insult the other two popular Abrahamic faiths--probably due to 1) cowardice, and 2) perception that Christianity is the most dangerous religion--fact is, Christianity is scary to anyone that hates it. I can respect an atheist that shows respect for other people's religions; militant atheists that ridicule religion are insecure jerks, desperately trying to justify their assertions through rudeness. Christians are urged to share their religious faith, and not to be ashamed of it. A good Christian will be sensitive to the faiths (and lack of faith) of others, whilst not suppressing expression of their faith.

I do accept that atheists do not believe in God. I am here to dialogue and learn a bit and answer question. I am sure there is an atheist lurking somewhere who does not accept my beliefs, but that doesn't keep me up at night.

The religious people think that they have to get people to convert to their religion, so they tell the atheists to convert. Then the atheists get mad because the religious people are bothering them. So the religious people....It's a cycle man. It'll end one of these days maybe. But I don't think it will. It's impossible for them to stop fighting because both groups are too proud to lose.

I would be more than happy to leave people to their private beliefs. But unfortunately private beliefs do not stay private, they seep over into the political arena. When people make their personal religious beliefs the basis of their actions toward others, their beliefs become public. If a person's beliefs influence how they act toward others, their personal beliefs should be made open to criticism, and that goes for atheists or fundamentalists. Personal beliefs are not just personal when they dictate public actions.

As A christian, I accept that God gave us freewill.

If someone doesnt believe, as long as they speak with a bit of respect and not total slander or attack, I will answer them as respectful as I can.

Keep in mind, being a human being I sometimes fail in my efforts. Thats when the words "I was wrong and I'm sorry I hurt you" come in handy.

I once made an amends to this whole R&S forum when (what i feel was God) made me see the err in my ways for preaching on here.

Good question

They should.
But they don't. From my perspective, it's an angry lot that calls themselves atheists. Not sure why. If you don't believe, why would you care? (note some of the Anger in these posts) Yet all the anger. Something is bothering somebody. Why all the obviously mean spirited questions.

Im fine with people believing. Its just when people try and" SAVE" ( convince ) others that what they BELIEVE is real .
That is what pisses me off.I live a more honest and righteous life than all of your televangelists.Guess what ,you don`t have to send me any money to live this way.

Atheists are here being intolerant to the ignorance of religion for the good of the believers and ourselves. Believers need to be enlightened - brought out of the darkness of religious dogma and bathed in the light of reasonableness.

Atheist take the attitude of: Forgive them for they know not how to think... We are here to assist those in need of remedial logic help.

no. the relidgits will never get the idea. At least the atheists are not likely to start killing people over it. The relidgits are likely to kill people over it and have done so in the past.
