hey, plz don't take this question wrong, i am simply asking for a friend who's doing a news article, there's not actually anything going on.
ok, well she's doing it on student teacher relationships and while she knows its illegal for students to date teachers, she wants to know if once you leave that school or something can you date a staff member from that school (even if you are only moving, not actually finishing school)

Well if she's not a student at the school (and therefore no duty-of-care between student/teacher exist) and she's of legal age (which I am assuming you're in America.... I'm not so I don't know what it is)and both are consenting, I don't think there are any legal ramifications.....possibly ethical ones though

No, no, no, no, no!
Just to be sure did I say no yet?
A teacher cannot and must not date a student. Whether present or past. It is just not right! Yeah sure there are and can be lapses in judgement by both parties, actually anyone and anybody can justify to themselves and others what they are doing and why they are doing it. Also, fate can be cruel at times by setting you up to test your resolve. My experienced advice to you is WAIT for at least a 6 months before you decide you need to be together. Plus make a list of goals you desire and the other person needs to do this as well. Then sit down rationally and decide if the both of you are wanting the same thing out of a relationship.
Maybe use your concious in this matter as well.
Then, just one more thing you need to do together before anything else is decided.
Play the game of Monopoly together. This will show a person's true self and let you know more about them than anything else in a very short time and without any sugar coating to boot.
good luck and once again... NO!
Hugs to you,
jeffrey

I think that, as long as that person isn't currently your teacher, it's legal from that standpoint, BUT the age difference could still make things illegal.
