We usually do a mashed potato contest in our family on Thanksgiving. Trying to think of something different for this year. Already did garlic mashed potatoes. What's another flavor or creative addition that maybe I haven't thought of yet?

P.S. don't care for sweet potatoes too much...

Looking at this again, I think you will probably need to add some milk to this recipe if you like your mashed potatoes to have a creamy texture.

Horseradish mashed potatoes are good, especially served with beef dishes. You might also try adding ranch dressing instead of milk or sour cream.

How about taking ordinary mash potato and spooning or piping it onto trays to make biscuity type things - my dad calls them potato merangues. They go all crispy on the outside and you can pick them up with your fingers instead of having to use cutlery.

Try using milk and mayonaisse for creaminess and add finely chopped shallots before mashing. (I usually add them along with garlic, but I am sure it is okay to leave it out.)
