Cigarette smoking is sinful. You are killing your body and damaging the lungs of others through second hand smoke. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Jesus never advocated weaning off sin. Jesus did not say to the woman caught in adultery, "You know, you should wean off that prostitution". A wife beater is not told "slow down on that wife beating, only hit her with the back of your hand, or try just twice a week and see how you do". We are told to quit sin cold turkey, and God will grant us the strength if we trust in Him and immerse ourselves in His word and His promises.

I think you should do both.

I mean, why not. Quiting smoking cigarettes altogether and how fast or slow you go aren't necessarily exclusive of one another.

There's a lot to be said for going slower. You'll see more of what you've been missing along the way. Take driving to work, for example. Whenever I drive fast, I don't get a chance to peruse the billboards along the highway... there are some pretty good ones out there, you know.

And as for help on the 100 year old... sorry... I just don't know of anybody off hand but I'll ask around for you.

PS. What's this got to do with Sky-bowling & Fairytales anyhow...? Shouldn't this question be in the Sports & History section?

You may not want to be 100, but I'd guess you don't want to die in your 50s or earlier. I'm not saying that is what will happen to you, but my uncle died at 24 from lung cancer caused by smoking. Also, a friend's husband quit smoking, but it was too late. Lung cancer took him quickly at 57. My grandmother smoked A LOT. She didn't die of cancer, but she spent the last few years of her life hooked up to an oxygen tank all the time. If I were you, I'd quit. If you're in the states, cigarettes have gotten really expensive. You'd probably save a load of money.

I want to live to be 100, or more if I can . Life is a gift, treat it that way. It's good that you're thinking of the health benefits of quitting. Quit!!! You won't regret it (ok maybe during the withdrawal portion of quitting, but there are options out there to counter that, Nicoderm, Nicorette, etc.) Talk to your doctor about making quitting smoking a little easier. Oh, and, you'll be keeping all that second hand smoke away from everyone else. (non smokers don't want cancer either,,,that's why they don't smoke!!) Good luck!

Nicotine is very addictive. It is much harder to cut back then it is to stop completely. Like so-called hard drugs you need more as time goes on to get the same effect (tolerance.) No one lives forever but nonsmokers have a better chance of having a good quality of life as they get older.

What is it about smoking that you like?

If it is the nicotine rush then using a patch or gum under a doctor's supervision may help you to phase out the nicotine without the harmful effects of tar and smoke particles in your lungs.

If it is motions of smoking (lighting up, that first draw, stubbing out the butt) then find a new activity to occupy your attention.

This is one of those situations where one can't be sure what the intention of the other is, so all you can do is be brave and ask if she is doing anything after work on Friday (or whenever) and would she like to see a movie with you... or whatever you have in mind. It might be that if she knows she is two years your senior, she is just being a nice co-worker and giving you friendly advice, and that you are misunderstanding her intentions, but why not take a chance and find out for sure!

I mean we don't all live to be 100 even if we don't smoke.
I think you should cut down on the smokes, depending on your smokes per day. And then when you get used to that slowly cut down each month or something then stop.

Quit now. No really, quit right this minute. Crush that cigarette. Take the rest of the pack and run them under water to ruin them. Stop the poisoning of your lungs and the air others breathe. Live long and prosper. Hey, you never saw Spock or Kirk with a stinky cigarette hanging out of their mouths.

You may not live to be 100. But you must strive to live healthy as long as you live. The body is the true temple of God. He is not to be found in Church So if you put smoke into your body take it from that the Lord does not like smoke. May be another reason to give up smoking
